We were all expecting an answer about physics, or string theory whatever the hell that is but it turns out, the mystery Hawking is most intrigued by is women. Typical.
Considering he has a PhD in physics and is responsible for numerous theories that explain some of the biggest questions about the universe, if he can't work the female species out the rest of us didn't have much of a chance.

Q: What mystery do you find most intriguing and why?
A: Women. My PA reminds me that although I have a PhD in physics, women should remain a mystery.
And then things got more serious when he was asked about the future of the company. He was asked whether he thought technological advances would cause large scale unemployment and whether humans would continue to invent new jobs, or if we would reach a point where most of societal work was predominately automated, negating the need for paid work.

Hawking answered:
If machines produce everything we need, the outcome will depend on how things are distributed. Everyone can enjoy a life of luxurious leisure if the machine-produced wealth is shared, or most people can end up miserably poor if the machine-owners successfully lobby against wealth redistribution.
So far, the trend seems to be toward the second option, with technology driving ever-increasing inequality
Wow, chipper. We'll all be poor and confused by women. What wonderful prospects!
