Wills and inheritances seem to bring out the worst in people and it seemed OP was facing a similar issue when it came to her husband's passing away.

OP and her husband had been married after their previous marriages had broken down. The two had previous children from those marriages that they brought together into a blended family.

It was a difficult transition for OP since her stepchildren never accepted her as part of their family.

They accused OP of being a gold digger but the truth was that OP was in fact rich on her own.

Her husband did not like the way his children treated her and decided to withhold their college tuition as a result.

When he got cancer later in his life, his children did not stop by to check on him.

There was however one person that was always around to help the two. OP and her husband had made friends with a waitress at a cafe they would frequent.

The single mother would make sure they were taken care of while handling her own responsibilities.

She even helped with the funeral.

Her stepchildren however showed up only to ask about their inheritance.

When OP realized the entire estate had been left to her, she decided to give it over to the waitress who had been around in his final days.

Not only were her stepchildren upset, but OP's own daughter was upset too.

OP was rethinking her decision and was wondering if she was wrong for the way she handled the situation.

Commenters thought what OP did was noble and that the waitress could have used the inheritance the most out of all the children.

They also added that their father was the one that wrote the will so they couldn't be angry at OP for doing what she wanted with the money.

Others felt like there was more to the story than was being told.

Having their college tuition withheld and painting them as villains were red flags that stood out in the story.

They even wondered why OP never mentioned her own wealth to the children.
