We all have needed help when it comes to relationships. Each one is unique, and taking that first step of asking someone out can be terrifying, especially when you don't know how to approach it. If you're having trouble getting your crush's attention, you may want to ask your English professor. That's what worked for one student who shared his story on the Love What Matters Facebook page.
Student Asks Professor How To Ask A Girl Out On A Date And Now People Are Taking Notes
#1
22-year-old student Jake Moreno attends Salt Lake Community College in Utah. He asked his philosophy of religion professor, Shannon Atkinson, to help him draft a text message to a girl he wanted to take out on a date.
#2
Jake asked his prof if the triangle and Aristotelian Rhetoric could be used to ask out a woman. So together they came up with the perfect text using Ethos, Logos, and Pathos.
Jake's invite to dinner centered on the three main points of persuasion:
Ethos (an appeal to ethics): Jake did not pressure Hannah, nor did he insist that the date be romantic. Instead, he offered a friendly outing with a 'cool' guy.
Pathos (an appeal to emotion): His proposal suggested that the dinner would be full of fun and excitement
Logos (an appeal to logic): Knowing that Hannah was moving apartments, Jake offered a meal to help fuel her through the move, also suggesting that the evening out would mean free food for her, as well as a stress-free escape from the rigors of her work.

"Jacob approached me after class wondering if the triangle and Aristotelian Rhetoric could be used to ask a woman on a date and I was intrigued, thus my help," Atkinson told BuzzFeed News.
#4
"Honestly, Jacob was the brains behind the whole thing; my part was only in helping him form the 'wording' of the text so he didn’t come off too strong," he added.

And she said yes!
So Jake and Hannah went out on their date on a Friday evening. They got burgers, watched the sunset, and he got to meet her dog, Winston.

The text the student wrote, as a result, is the sort that many of us wish we'd see more of in our Tinder inboxes. We'd say he gets an A+ on this one.

Jake Moreno Wrote on facebook page Love What Matters:
"I have about zero skills when it comes to texting girls so I legit asked my English professor to help me draft a text to a girl and us straight ethos, logos, pathos my way into a date! I'm including photos from after our date. Look how cute Hannah is! I still can't believe she said yes. We finger painted the sunset together, it was so amazing and the painting was good but the real masterpiece was next to me the whole time. Also, Winston is very chill."

Twitter users cracked up with the message that reminded students of their dormant high school and college English lessons, that they hardly exercised outside of academic environments, but proved wildly successful for Jake. His tweet racked up over 74,000 retweets and over 316,000 likes.

"I guess it was quite successful because Jacob said she said yes, went on the date, and now perhaps matchmaker will have to go on my resume in the near future. I thought including all three would appeal well to her pathos," Atkinson said. "The logos and ethos sides were pretty straightforward and he had these pretty much settled."
