#1 Recurrent Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

Since stones might get blocked in the urinary tract, that may lead to recurrent UTIs.

#2 Blood in micturition.

Hematuria: the condition of bleeding during urination. It may be a consequence of the presence of stones in kidney and ureters.

#3 Family history.

If there's a family history of kidney stones, you are at risk of suffering from them too. You may inherit the inability to absorb oxalate.

#4 Back or abdominal pain.

This pain can be severe and even interfere with the ability to sit or walk properly. In the case of extreme pain, consult a physician immediately.

#5 Changes in urine color and smell.

If a kidney stone passes through the urinary tract, it may damage the small tubes that carry urine out of the body. In that case, changes occur in the appearance or smell of urine. Urine may emit an abnormally strong, foul smell.

#6 Inflamatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

IBD, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis patients are at an increased risk of kidney stones. Such disorders may cause diarrhea which in turn causes dehydration thereby forming kidney stones.

#7 Allergic reactions to a treatment for uric acid stones.

Uric acid kidney stones are sometimes treated with allopurinol. Allopurinol (Lupurin, Zyloprim) is very effective in reducing high blood levels of uric acid, and may be helpful for patients with uric acid stones. Allopurinol will not prevent calcium stones from forming.Side effects include diarrhea, headache, and fever. About 2% of patients have an allergic reaction to allopurinol that causes a rash. In rare cases, the rash can become severe and widespread enough to be life threatening.
