You better believe it! One of the best tasting foods out there can help you loose that gut!
#1 Taco Scientists back their book "The Taco Cleanse"
Maybe once in your life you've tried a cleanse diet to lose weight and get healthier. There's now a new cleanse diet that won't deprive you of your favorite food, especially if it's tacos.
"Taco scientists" out of Austin came up with a plan. They call it the 30-day taco cleanse, providing more than 75 vegan recipes that put a healthy twist on a favorite dish in South Texas. Yes, it's tacos for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
In their book, "The Taco Cleanse", they say the diet will "Bring all your levels to new heights and increase your nutrimatter content a thousandfold".
#2 Too good to be true?
"A juice cleanse? Who wants to drink juice all day? Unless its a taco," taco lover Aaron Tarpley said.
To many, "taco cleanse" sounds like an oxymoron. Culinary students we spoke with say tacos can be versatile, meaning we can make them many different ways to cater to our diets.
"Its very easy to convert into vegetarian or non-meat for those that are on their special diets, too," taco lover John Mione said.
San Antonians have a big love for tacos. Thousands flock across the street from the restaurant Viva Tacoland to snap a photo with the popular statement, "I love you so much". Instead of "you", it's crossed out and replaced with "tacos".
The Tin Can food truck sits outside of Viva Tacoland. The owner says tacos are in high demand, even when they're not on the menu.
#3 The Pros say to go for it!
"I tried to switch up the menu and do some gourmet sandwiches," Tin Can owner Manny Olivarez said. "Here at Taco Land, I'm getting so many requests for tacos that I think I have to re-do the menu and add some more tacos."
Health professionals tell us if you can make your favorite taco healthier, do it.
"If you can wrap wonderful vegetables and beans - beans are so good for us - if you can wrap those inside of a lettuce leaf or maybe a corn tortilla, I think that is a great option," said Jennifer Herriott, Assistant Director of the Community Health Division at the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. "Cilantro, beans, chopped up onions, tomatoes. Those can all be wonderful things you can put inside of a taco."
On the website TacoCleanse.com, the benefits of the cleanse are "too numerous to name", but include "waking up in the morning with new enthusiasm when you know your day is going to start with a breakfast taco, your life will become more fun and you will make more friends while consuming the required margarita supplements on the plan and your sleep will improve as you begin to detox from the negative self images associated with other diets".
"Its authentic. It's real. It's love. That's tacos," taco lover Kala Singleton said.
To lose weight, you still have to count your calories on the taco cleanse. Taco lovers say it's at least much easier to keep up with compared to other cleanse diets.
