PETA has criticized Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for their recent visit to a zoo, suggesting that they should have opted for 'a true sanctuary' instead.
The animal rights organization voiced their concerns following reports that the celebrity couple had a pleasant outing at Sydney Zoo.
Taylor Swift is currently captivating audiences in Australia with her highly anticipated Era's Tour.
Amid her busy schedule, the 'Blank Space' singer was reportedly eager for a reunion with her partner, Travis Kelce, who made the trip down under to spend time with her.
Choosing to explore one of the area's notable attractions, the couple enjoyed what Australian media described as a 'private tour' of the zoo, where they were seen engaging closely with a baby kangaroo, among other activities.
Debbie Metzler, the Foundation Director of Captive Animal Welfare at PETA, expressed disappointment over the couple's choice of leisure activity.
Speaking to TMZ and referencing a Swift song from 2012, Metzler said:
"While we understand all too well the appeal of seeing Australia's wildlife, PETA hopes that next time Taylor and Travis want to see wild animals, they'll spend their time and money at a true sanctuary."
She emphasized that sanctuaries enforce a no-touch policy and maintain a 'respectable distance' from the animals, which creates a 'better environment for the animals' compared to the interactions permitted at zoos.
Despite the criticism, Swift was observed getting hands-on with the animals, including feeding them, during her visit to the zoo.
Swift is set to conclude the Australian segment of her tour with four final performances this weekend.
It seems she is keen to maximize her time with Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs player, amidst her touring commitments.
The 'All Too Well' singer has also faced scrutiny recently over her environmental footprint, specifically the carbon emissions attributed to her use of a private jet.
Swift was labeled the 'biggest celebrity CO2 polluter' after reportedly generating 138 tons of emissions in just three months.
In response to these allegations, a spokesperson for Swift informed UNILAD:
"Before the tour kicked off in March of 2023, Taylor purchased more than double the carbon credits needed to offset all tour travel.
The excess credits means Taylor could have accounted for more than enough to cover her latest romance springing up in the middle of her sell-out tour, with her trips to support Kelce upping her carbon emissions alongside her planned tour travels."
This statement was made in an effort to address concerns about the environmental impact of her and Kelce's travel arrangements during the tour.
