Taylor Swift has been trying to revamp her image with her edgier hits like “Look What You Made Me Do.” But what if her career is actually over? The star has been at the center of various feuds in the past few years and it feels like the drama just keeps growing. She’s had a beef with everyone from Nicki Minaj, Calvin Harris, Kimye, and Katy Perry. Many people are saying that Taylor’s long-standing feuds with Katy Perry as well as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are revealing her true nature. The pop singer has worked hard to maintain her innocent, girl-next-door persona. Now it seems that she realizes that’s no longer going to work, so she’s come out with her edgier image. But her new hit “LWYMMD” still seems to be blaming the rest of Hollywood for her problem, rather than recognizing that she’s the one who got herself into so many feuds. The song is literally her telling her haters that they’ve made her trade-in her sweet, naïve persona for this tougher one. But we have a feeling Taylor’s image revamp might be too little too late. Check out these reasons why Taylor’s career might already be over!
Taylor Swifts Career Might Be Over And These Are The Reasons Why
She Tried To Make Nicki Minaj Look Like A Villain
Countless people have accused Taylor of making herself look like the victim, while everyone else is made out to be the villains. And there was never a truer example of this than when Taylor tried to make fellow musician Nicki Minaj seem like the bad guy. But the only person who was embarrassed following this feud was Tay. In July 2015, Nicki was frustrated that she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year at the MTV VMAs. She took to Twitter to talk about the lack of representation of black female artists at awards show. One of her tweets read, “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.” However, Taylor took Nicki’s tweet at a diss towards her, since her “Bad Blood” music video was nominated. Taylor then tweeted back to the rapper, accusing her of pitting women against women. Nicki wasn’t having any of it, so she clarified that she was talking about racism in the music industry, not Taylor. Realizing her mistake, Taylor said, “If I win, please come up with me!! You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on.” Nicki did join Tay on stage for her performance and the ladies have reportedly made amends over the phone.
She Lied About Hearing Kanye’s “Famous” Before It Was Released
Taylor has had a long history with Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian. But nothing was more shocking in their longstanding feud when it became clear Taylor had lied about knowing the lyrics to Kanye’s hit “Famous.” After its release, Tay made it clear that she was not a fan of the song and claimed to never have approved the graphic lyrics. In an interview with GQ, Kim said that was a lie. “She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved…” she said. Taylor then released an attorney’s letter to Kimye. Kim responded by releasing footage on Snapchat of Taylor verbally approving the track. So, now the whole world knows Tay was lying!
She Said Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Are Going To Hell
Comedians Tina Fey and Amy Poehler gave Taylor a hard time at the 2013 Golden Globes when they poked fun of her long list of ex-lovers. “You know what, Taylor Swift? You stay away from Michael J. Fox’s son,” Tina told the crowd at the awards show. Tina added, “She needs some time to learn about herself.” Taylor finally responded to the jokes during an April 2013 Vanity Fair interview. “You know, Katie Couric is one of my favorite people because she said to me she had heard a quote that she loved, that said, ‘There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women,” Taylor said. So, yeah, she basically said that Tina and Amy were going to hell for making fun of her dating life. But Tina Fey totally had the last laugh. At the 2014 Golden Globes, Tina jokingly said, “I just want to say congratulations again to my friend, Amy Poehler! I love you, and there’s a special place in hell for you.”
She Allegedly Cheated On Calvin Harris
Tons of fans thought Taylor had found the one in DJ Calvin Harris when they dated for 15-months. But the two surprisingly broke up in 2015, though the split seemed amicable and on good terms at first. But, only weeks after, Taylor was then seen cozying up to Tom Hiddleston! That didn’t seem to sit well with Calvin, who took a number of jabs at his ex on Twitter. But what was interesting was that Calvin later released a song called “Ole.” It seems to be written from the perspective of a guy who’s dating a girl who has a boyfriend. Many suspect it’s written from Tom’s perspective. The lyrics read, “”I see online that you began to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend. Being attentive, continue to pretend…” and “You’ve hidden my name in your phone so you can call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell. Left him alone and you booked in a hotel.” Uh oh! The drama only continued when Tay’s team revealed she wrote Calvin’s hit “This Is What You Came For,” which set him off on Twitter. As of now, the two seemed to have quieted their drama. Calvin also just released a song “Feels” with Tay’s arc nemesis Katy Perry.
Her Music Videos Are Full Of Cultural Appropriation
Like many celebrities nowadays, Taylor has had her fair share of issues with cultural approbation. Tons of fans have called the singer out for her sometimes questionable music video. In her vid for “Shake It Off”, Taylor used a lot of elements from the African-American and hip-hop communities without giving them due credit. Some fans defended her, saying the video was funny and she wasn’t doing it seriously. But maybe Tay should think before she twerks! She also got heat for her video for “Wildest Dreams”, where she basically romanticized colonialism in Africa (even though it did so much harm). Not cool! Everything from the costumes to the animals to the landscape screams white privilege. And, even though the video was set in Africa, it didn’t even feature a person of color.
She Didn’t Support Kesha’s Assault Case At First
Tons of celebrities took to Twitter to voice their support for Kesha in February 2016 when she was battling music producer Dr. Luke in court. The singer alleged he had physically and emotionally abused her, and she was trying to get out of her recording contract with Sony. When the judge ruled against her, many celebs publicly disagreed with the verdict. But Taylor wasn’t one of them. The singer didn’t say anything about Kesha’s legal battles- and fellow stars called her out for it. Most noticeably, Demi Lovato was angered that the pop star didn’t use her voice to support Kesha’s cause. The singer sent out a series of tweets that many fans believe were aimed at Tay. “I’m also ready for self-proclaimed feminists to start speaking out or taking action for women’s rights.” Due to the backlash, Taylor ended up donating $250,000 to Kesha’s legal costs. But not everyone was impressed. “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” Demi later wrote in a tweet. Was Taylor’s donation too little too late?
She’s Ripped Off Other Musician’s Lyrics
Think Taylor is a talented songwriter? Well, not everyone does. The pop star has been accused on multiple occasions of copying other musicians’ work- she’s even gotten herself involved in several lawsuits because of it. Two songwriters- Sean Hall and Nathan Butler- have launched a lawsuit against Tay for allegedly copying their work in her hit “Shake It Off.” Taylor’s rep has only laughed off the legal action, saying “This is a ridiculous claim and nothing more than a money grad […] they do not have a case.” Taylor faced a similar case in 2015 that was later dismissed. R&B artist Jesse Graham sued the songstress for $42 million, claiming she stole lyrics for “Shake It Off” from his track “Haters Gone Hate.” So far, no one has been able to prove that Taylor has plagiarized lyrics, but the accusations just keep on coming.
She Only Cares About Making Money, Not The Fans
Taylor made a controversial move when she sent an open letter to Apple Music, arguing that artists should be paid royalties during its trial period. Apple ended up conceding to Taylor’s wishes, but not everyone in the music industry was impressed. Former One Direction member Zayn Malik took to Twitter to slam Tay’s decision. He posted side-by-side quotes from Taylor and Miley, writing, “the difference is astounding.” In Miley’s quote, the singer says she doesn’t care about making more money since she’s already a millionaire, which was in stark contrast from Tay’s quote from her Apple letter. Taylor’s then-boyfriend Calvin Harris tried to defend her, writing, “If u don’t get what it means when a successful artist uses their celebrity to benefit every other musician and songwriter in the industry.” But Zayn only replied by calling him a “fool.” Who do you think won this feud?
Her Boyfriend’s Friends Don’t Even Like Her
It’s not a good sign when your significant other’s friends don’t like you! A few weeks ago, a source dished to Hollywood Life that Tay’s current BF Joe Alwyn’s friends didn’t think the pop star was a good catch for the budding actor. They think all of the negativity surrounding Taylor and her dating history will be a bad thing for Joe. “Joe is an up-and-coming actor and has spent years working on his career,” the source explained. “No one wants to see Taylor drag him down with her.” Despite his friend’s concerns, it doesn’t sound like Joe is thinking of splitting with Tay anytime soon. Another source adds that things are going well between the famous lovers. “She really likes Joe,” they said. “He’s a good prize and is supportive of her career choices,” they added. “She’s very happy.” But how long will things last if his friends don’t support them? It doesn’t sound like this relationship was meant to last!
She Only Hangs Out With Certain Types Of Women
Taylor likes to play up the image that she’s an inclusive feminist. But then why does everyone in her squad all look the same? Pretty much all of her friends are tall, gorgeous, leggy-models- which sounds like a description of Taylor! Even her friends who don’t work in the modeling industry still fit this description. All of her closest friends are slim, stunning, and famous. But this is a pretty shallow representation of feminism. There’s absolutely no intersectionality in Taylor’s friend circle. It’s not cool to choose your friends based on how they look or what they do for a living. Taylor’s dangerous ideas of #squadgoals might be a negative impression to her younger viewers or push the idea that you need a gorgeous group of gal pals to amount to anything.
