Mum furious when teacher asked her daughter to hold in her period when she requested a bathroom break during class.
Teacher Tells Student To 'Hold In' Her Period When She Asked To Go To Bathroom
When you're in high school you expect the boys to not know anything about periods. The teachers however have no excuse. This mum was shocked to find out that one of her daughter's male teachers asked her to 'hold in' her period during class.
User Yaela123 took to the Mumsnet forum and shared the story of how her 15-year-old daughter needed to go to the bathroom during class.
Unfortunately, the school had a no toilet during lessons rule and was refused.
The mother said she understood why the rule was in place but thought that her daughter's situation was a little different.
She added that the school allowed bathroom use when the students had a doctor's note.
Her daughter was on her period and felt like she needed to go to the bathroom soon to change her pad. She finally asked her teacher for permission to go to the bathroom.
The teacher immediately refused and mentioned the rule.
Her daughter tried to explain that she was on her period and was afraid of leakage but the teacher still refused to budge and told her to 'hold it in' for half an hour until break.
OP said that her daughter was shy and didn't push the issue.
She said her daughter had moved on but she couldn't help but feel she needed to step in. She asked if she was being unreasonable for thinking her teacher should have known better.
In further comments, she added that her daughter is usually pretty good with handling her period and does not often ask to leave lessons.
She also added that these classes go on for stretches of 2 hours.
Commenters urged her to complain to the principal.
Another commenter added how she also knew someone in his 20s who did not know how periods worked.
Most were baffled as to how the teacher got it so wrong.
Some played devil's advocate and said that girls often use the period excuse to get out of class and that she could've waited for the half hour easily.
Other commenters agreed with OP, saying that people have different kinds of periods and it was likely that the 30-minute wait would have been too much.
