Let me start out by saying that just because these shows were pretty terrible, it does not mean that they were not good too. I understand that may not make a whole lot of sense. But, sometimes things can be awful while still being entertaining. That is basically describing the '90s as a whole anyway. These are some of the worse shows from that decade that we just have to admit that we loved them no matter how horrible they really were.
Ten Shows From The 90s That Were Pretty Bad But We Watched Them Anyway
Baby Talk
How can any show that had George Clooney, Scott Baio, and a monologue from Tony Danza possibly be horrible? It is pretty easy. The baby's monologue was all about the mom's dating life told through the eyes of her child. Clooney even referred to this show as one of the lowest points in his career. The show only lasted one season and was truly one of the worst shows to air, ever.
Babes
This show was about three obese sisters who live in a tiny New York apartment. The show was canceled within the first season and faced a ton of backlash for their overuse of fat jokes in every single episode.
Cop Rock
You would think that a show about a police procedural that is also a musical would be fantastic. Sadly, it just did not translate well to audiences. It is one of the biggest television failures of all time. Steve Bochco who created the show also created Hill Street Blues. When asked about what he learned about his experience with Cop Rock he said, "Don’t put music in a cop show. Don’t have characters burst into song." We could not agree more.
Dharma and Greg
It is generally not a good idea to get married on your first date especially if the two of you are polar opposites. For some reason, this show actually lasted five whole seasons and Jenna Elfman got three Emmy nominations for her role as Dharma. There is nothing that screams romance quite like a wife who is always embarrassing her uptight husband.
Freaks and Geeks
We know that this show was a breeding ground for "before they were stars" actors, but there was a reason why the show did not make it for the long haul. No one wanted to see a bunch of teenagers deal with high school while dealing with puberty. We were already living that ourselves.
Wings
The people who brought us the classic show, Cheers, also brought us Wings. You would have thought the show would have been great, right? Wrong. It should have come as no surprise that a show about an airport would really not be all that exciting. After all, airports are boring. At least when you go to an airport in real life, you are going somewhere. With the show, we just got to watch these people deal with their love lives for eight long seasons.
Clueless
We totally loved the movie, but like most movies that are turned into television shows, this fell very short. The biggest issue was that Alicia Silverstone did not come on the show to play Cher. Instead, we were stuck with her doppelganger, Rachel Blanchard.
Coach
Oh, the horror! A football coach has to deal with his daughter dating. While Coach was pretty popular and ran for nine seasons, the whole premise got tiring rather quickly. The whole "dad doesn't want his daughter to date" thing could only be funny for so long before it just got old.
Will and Grace
This is probably the most controversial pick for this list. Will & Grace was one of the most iconic shows of the 90s. It is even doing well with the reboot of the show, but the show relied too strongly on stereotypes. While we might have found most of it funny, the jokes about gays, alcoholism, and big boobs just started to get old after awhile.
Friends
Retrospectively, Friends was not a great TV show. Yes, I still watch old episodes, but the setup and characters were just not ideal. Each character became a parody of themselves and played up their most annoying quirks.
