Two suspects have since been identified by Jackson Police Department, but have yet to be arrested.
A shocking incident was captured on video showing carjackers shooting at a family as they attempted to steal their vehicle with children still inside.
The event unfolded last Friday, May 24, when surveillance footage recorded two individuals sneaking up and opening fire on a family in the driveway of their West Jackson, Mississippi home as they were saying goodbye.
Heather Allen recounted the harrowing ordeal, which occurred around 7:30pm during the daylight hours.
"I threw my hands up like, 'Hey, hey, hey,' and he just pulled me down," Allen described in an interview with WAPT.
While Allen and one of her sons were outside the car, her eldest son, daughter, and two grandchildren were inside.
Allen added: "They kept hollering, 'Give me the keys, give me the keys.' My daughter was like, 'My babies, my babies are in the car.'
"He jumps in the driver's seat, I'm standing on the outside looking in, and he points a gun at my oldest boy's face."
Miraculously, Allen's son made it out without injury, and the footage also showed one suspect dragging Allen's daughter out of the vehicle.
During this terrifying moment, Allen managed to get her grandchildren from the backseat while the suspects continued to demand the car keys.
The carjackers, unable to start the vehicle and faced with Heather Allen's diversion of throwing the keys on the ground.
They eventually fled the scene in another car that Allen had parked on her lawn.
This quick thinking provided a crucial moment for the family's safety during the terrifying encounter.

Although everyone in Allen's family escaped physically unscathed, the emotional impact remains profound.
"I'm not sleeping. My oldest son, his anxiety is through the roof - he's even scared.
"My daughter, she has shock, but they're safe. They are in Batesville right now," Allen disclosed.
Having lived in the area for just three months, the family now intends to leave Jackson due to the incident.
Fortunately, the Jackson Police Department quickly located the stolen vehicle just two blocks from the crime scene.
"The cop said that the car looks good, but it's in the impound lot. I can't get it until they investigate it for fingerprints," Allen mentioned.
The police are actively working to return the vehicle to Allen as swiftly as possible.
Police chief Joseph Wade has identified two people of interest who are yet to be arrested.
He said: "I had an opportunity to look at the video of Ms. Allen and her family being robbed and carjacked in their driveway.
"It was extremely disturbing to me. It was very concerning to me because a threat to them and their family is a threat to everyone."
The ongoing investigation seeks further information, and authorities urge anyone with details to contact the JPD or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS.
