LAREDO, Texas (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested after buying a firearm and allegedly making threatening statements to the seller.
LAREDO, TX (KVEOl) – According to authorities, a guy in Laredo, Texas, was arrested after declaring his intention to go "human hunting" while purchasing a firearm accessory from an online seller.
According to Laredo PD, the threat was reported to the Laredo Authorities Department on May 25 after the internet vendor contacted police to report the alarming statement.
The seller advertised a rifle optic — or scope — for sale on social media.
When the vendor met with the buyer to complete the purchase, the suspect expressed his plan to go "human hunting."
The seller reported the statement to the authorities. Police launched an investigation and identified the buyer as 37-year-old Javier Torres.
During a search of Torres' home, officials found "several handguns, extended magazines, long rifles, a bulletproof vest with armor plates, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition," police said.
Torres was arrested on a charge of Terroristic Threats Felony-3.
Torres' house was also fewer than 1,000 feet from an elementary school. However, according to authorities, there was no evidence of direct threats to the school, faculty, or students.
The school district's law enforcement personnel will be kept up to date on the situation, according to Laredo police.
“We would like to specifically thank the actions of the caring citizen who took the time to inform law enforcement authorities about the concerns regarding this threatening statement made,” Laredo Police said. “We encourage anyone in the community to communicate any information that may pose a threat to anyone’s safety. If you see something, say something.”
The case remains ongoing.
