He could very well see that the woman who was putting her order on the conveyor belt seemed to be crying. Not liking the very idea that someone was having a bad day, Kasey stopped the woman instantly before she could pull out her credit card to pay and handed over $17 saying her bill was on him.

And it just didn't end there. He even wrote down his name, number and email on the bill saying that he worked as a waiter at the nearby Applebee restaurant and that if she ever needed someone to talk to, he would happy to interact. The lady was also told that he would buy her a coffee or dessert before his closing shift at 2 A.M. at the restaurant.

And that was that. The next day, Kasey upon resuming work found a customer bought nothing but bottled water whose bill was no more than $0.37 but along with it, was a receipt added to the bill, worth $500. At first, he couldn't understand. There was a note that he began reading, which had the following written, "On behalf of the Sullivan family, I want to thank you for being the person you are. On one of the most depressing days of the year, (the death of my father, 3 year anniversary) you made my mother's day wonderful. She has been smiling since you did what you did. Her grocery was only $17.00, and you insisted on paying and told her she was a very beautiful woman".

Kasey, who had himself lost his 2 month daughter a few years back could very well understand the woman's grief. Isn't it beautiful and strangely overwhelming how grief brings people together in uncanny situations?
