A poor thai woman Kodchakorn Tantiwiwaktul bought a 70 baht snack ($2) from a local shop in Satun, Thailand when she felt something hard embedded within the snail shells.

She was attempting to cut the snail into smaller pieces when she thought she felt a rock inside.

It turned out to be a 6g Melo Pearl, 1.5cm in diameter and probably worth tens of thousands of Dollars.

Out of fear that the vendor would ask for the pearl back, she and her family kept the object secret for months.

Now she has revealed that she plans on selling it to help pay for her mother’s medical costs.

She said, ‘I showed it to my mother and she said it’s a Melo pearl and very valuable. We also watched the news in the television where a fisherman sold his for a fortune.'

According to her father, the family was ‘desperate' for money after an accident and a cancer diagnosis.

'We can’t wait any longer. Now, we are desperate. My wife was diagnosed with cancer while I had an accident. This Melo pearl is our only hope to help them access the better treatment.'

They’ve now reached out to the public to bid on the pearl in an effort to finally sell it.

'I've seen stories of other people who have found Melo pearls and they were able to sell them. I hope we can do the same as the money will be a big help.’

Melo Pearls can be found in shades of orange to brown, although the most expensive ones are usually orange.

They are now fielding offers from businessmen who have offered upwards of 5 million baht, which is around $125,000 but have refused.
