Maybe you’ve been working with dry skin for a while, or maybe it’s a new issue. As always, it’s best to start from the beginning—learn about why you’re experiencing dry skin so that you can choose the best moisturizer for your dry skin.

#2 Honey

Raw, organic honey is naturally anti-bacterial, so it's an effective acne treatment, helps unclog pores and is a great cleanser. It's also full of antioxidants, making it a potent fighter of wrinkles, aging skin, irritation and blemishes, all while leaving a lovely afterglow.

Mix two tablespoons of honey with eight tablespoons of water until a paste forms. Apply to skin and allow it to dry, then gently wash off with warm water.

#3 Milk

Who needs lotion when you have milk in the fridge? If you’re feeling itchy, pour a bowl of milk, dip a washcloth in it and apply it to your skin for five minutes. Milk is soothing and its lactic acid is great for skin.

According to Susan C. Taylor, MD, from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, milk can stop the itch cycle. "Milk has anti-inflammatory properties that often take the itch away," she says.

#4 Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is really good for treating dry skin. It has a good amount of fatty acids that make up for any loss of moisture from the skin.

Liberally apply warm coconut oil all over your body before going to sleep. Wash it off in the morning. Do this daily to make your skin soft and smooth.

Apply coconut oil on your dry skin after you take a bath or shower. When the skin is warm and supple from your bath, coconut oil is more readily absorbed. Do this daily.

#5 Castor oil

Best dry skin care tips always includes the mention of castor oil. Castor oil reduces stretch marks, sunburn, acne and dry skin. It also helps evade infections like athlete’s foot and chronic itching. Castor oil effectively treats ringworms, a common and stubborn skin problem across all age groups.

It stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. Elastin is a protein in connective tissue that allows tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching. It also helps skin immensely to return to its original position when it is stretched.

#6 Aloe Vera Gel

Keep an aloe vera plant on your balcony. It grows very quickly and within no time, you’ll have a home moisturizer at your disposal! Aloe vera gel has plenty of nutrients like vitamin E and vitamin A that are great for the skin. It also contains plant steroids that have anti-inflammatory property. This will help to relieve the itching sensation seen with dry skin.

1.Peel off the outer part of the leaf and remove the inside stem that secretes the gel.

2.Extract this gel and make sure you mash it nicely and apply it soon as possible.

3.Allow it to dry for 10-12 minutes and then wash off with warm water.

You can store the remainder of the aloe vera gel in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for a few days.

#7 Avocado mask

Creating a homemade mask of avocado is another natural way to soothe dry skin. Crompton suggests pureeing half an avocado and mixing it with a teaspoon of olive oil; you can also add a tablespoon of honey for very dry skin. Apply the mask to your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, then wash it off. Your skin should feel moisturized, but you can double up on the hydrating effects by applying your regular moisturizer as well.
