When the New Zealander, Aaliyah Armstrong, was surprised with this particularly amazing dance at her wedding, she couldn't hold back the tears, because she could "feel the entire history of my ancestors. This overwhelming power that gets pulled through the generations." Her husband, Benjamin, is clearly delighted with this surprise and, when he takes off his jacket and joins the haka, there's no more holding back.

In the New Zealand culture, the haka plays an important role. This ritual of the indigenous maori warriors is usually carried out by a group of men and is an important component at many official ceremonies. For us, the ritual dance is particularly well known through Rugby, where the New Zealand Team dances the hake before the game in order to intimidate their opponents. This traditional dance however, is much more than just a wartime act. When translated, the word 'haka' means 'performance' or 'song and dance' and therefore a general term for all types of Maori dances. On the one hand, the haka is a greeting and entertainment for the guests, whether from men, women or a mixed group. A huge gesture. One can really feel the proud history of the Maori people. Aaliyah can be really proud of her ancestry and of her husband. Thousands of people have already been impressed by the dance and the video has been shared worldwide.
