When designing products, there are a few things you want to make sure it doesn't come out looking like.
But it's probably a good idea to make sure when you're making a pool float that it doesn't look like an enormous maxi pad.
A brand that’s managed to design a pool float that looks just like a giant maxi pad.
We’re not kidding.
The Aquaria Pasadena pool float has got the same shape as a pad. It’s light blue, just like the fake period blood everyone uses in adverts for tampons. It’s quilted for your comfort.
#1 Move over flamingo and unicorn pool floats, there's a new summer floatation favorite in town.
Yep, if adorable animals aren't your thing, how about a giant inflatable maxi pad?
That's right — introducing the Pasadena Pool Float! Look familiar??
#2 A pool float that resembles a giant inflatable sanitary pad has sparked a discussion on social media about the unfortunate design.
#3 The picture was first posted on social media site Reddit three days ago with users joking about the Pasadena Pool float's seemingly unintentional resemblance to a feminine hygiene product.
One Reddit user remarked: "It gives me the confidence I need to float in the pool."
#4 But it was when the photo of the giant lilo pad was shared by Jillian David on Twitter that users questioned how such a design could've been commissioned.
"This could have been avoided with 1 focus group (of women) she posted."
#5 The tweet has been shared 19,000 times (and counting) since being posted on Monday evening by baffled social media users.
Twitter, of course, was tickled pink by the design choice.
#6 Some just wanted to understand how this design ever made it to final production.
#7 But mostly, they just had jokes.
#8 Another remarked:
"This is not going to be a hit with their (probably) intended consumer group. Which could have been avoided simply by including them."
Others replied with what they believed were also unfortunate designs.
#9 There's no denying size matters… for comfort (get your head out of the gutter).
But this huge display was a little overwhelming for some, especially if you've personally had to dabble in the world of sanitary pads.
Not sure how I'd react coming face to face with a life-sized version of something that looks like an item that has been that close to my lady parts.
#10 The Pasadena Pool Float apparently comes in assorted colors but for some people, they only saw red.
#11 All jokes aside, the importance is safety, right? So, if you're a lady, think of all of the times one of these may have helped you out.
#12 This float definitely had people wondering if there was at least one woman present when this big product decision was made.
Major emphasis on the big.
As long as the instructions for both the float and an actual maxi pad aren't the same, we're in good shape.
#13 The float can be found on Amazon and Sears and even in some of those reviews, the maxi pad idea prevailed.
Oh, and it turns out it's not just IRL sanitary products that are over-priced because should you wish to get your hands on The Pasadena Pool Float, it can be snapped up on Amazon US for a whopping $79.50.
#14 All in all, people absorbed similar ideas about the presentation of this floating device.
#15 but I guess it doesn't really matter what you're floating on as long as you're in the water.
Watch this space for next summer's must-have item, the giant inflatable tampon. Can't wait!
