#1 Batman Promises To Keep Kids Safe From Evil Clowns

The best way to get rid of a real-life Joker is with a real-life Batman! An unidentified man in Cumbria, England took it upon himself to combat the onset of evil clowns recently dressed as the caped crusader. The Whitehaven man filmed himself chasing down a few crazy, devilish looking clowns and promised he would keep the children of the community safe.

But he is not the only real-life superhero out there patrolling our streets and keeping us safe. We found several stories of everyday working people who have begun taking matters into their own hands by springing into action against crime and evil-doers in their neighborhoods and communities.

#2 Mr Extreme – San Diego

He is a security guard by day, but at night he dons an armoured uniform and green helmet and becomes Mr Extreme, keeping his community in Southern California safe from crimes like street fights, muggings, burglaries, domestic disputes, and even several drug deals. His tactics have become so popular with the residents of San Diego that he has enlisted the aid of several other crime fighters who call themselves the Mr Extreme Volunteer Group. They even make regular appearances at Comic-Con alongside fictional crimefighters.

#3 Thanatos – Vancouver

He looks as creepy as the clowns roaming the streets trying to lure innocent children, but this hero in his dark trench coat, fedora, and grotesque, melty-green mask is really a guy to envy. He doesn't really fight crime in his British Columbia hometown, but instead he strolls the streets nightly handing out money to the needy, giving food vouchers to the hungry, handing out warm clothes to those who are cold, and alerts Social Services about those who may be in danger or are without a home or bed to sleep in.

#4 The Justice Crew of Oshawa – Ontario

This foursome isn't really out there looking for crime to fight, but they are on the prowl for litterbugs and unethical waste disposal in and around Ontario in Canada. The four eco-friendly crusaders have a Facebook page of their own where they claim that they are "bettering the community of Oshawa Ontario by offering friendly free services such as Safety Patrols, Homeless Outreach, and Litter Removal etc."

#5 Knight Warrior and Knight Maiden – Manchester

This couple has the best intentions, and they try to use humor to stop brawls in bars as they patrol local pubs and bars at night in their costumes. They often enter a pub and make sure that those who are intoxicated are safe and have a ride home, rather than driving on the roads. Roger Hayhurst from Salford and his fiance Rebecca Wall often use their crime-fighting costumes to defuse and halt any fights that may break out in the taverns by pretending to use comic book superhero tactics, making the crowds laugh instead of throw beer bottles.

#6 SuperBarrio – Mexico City

He looks like a pumped-up superhero, but he doesn;t use any violence to fight crime because he is a pacifist. Half luchador-wrestler, half Captain Marvel knock-off, SuperBarrio is a community activist and Mexican celebrity who has become a beloved figure on the streets of Mexico City. Asamblea de Barrios created his character in 1987 after fighting for affordable housing after the 1985 Mexico City earthquake and uses his elaborate and flamboyant caped persona to work as a community activist. However, SuperBarrio has been missing in action since 1997. Maybe we'll see him again soon?

#7 Nyx – New Jersey

The first and most prominent superheroine on our list, Nyx, resembles the Daredevil comic book character Elektra. Clad in black, with striped leggings and a distinctive red mask, Nyx has been a practicing superhero under a variety of guises since the tender age of 16 and uses her alter ego to help the homeless in the New Jersey area. She also has her own Facebook page where she accepts commissions and pleas for help from locals and updates her multitude of followers on her good deeds. Holy Mascara Batman!

#8 Ragensi – Los Angeles

Ragensi is a superhero with a supernatural twist. Referring to himself as a "Paranormal Investigator and Masked Adventurer Extraordinaire", he doesn't bother with the crimes committed by humans. He fights ghosts. He says that he investigates spooks, spirits, poltergeists, ghouls, aliens, or anything else deemed weird enough to be an X-File. His Facebook page boasts how he is saving the California city by exploring and researching such phenomena as poltergeists, "cursed objects," and other occult phenomena.

#9 Phoenix Jones – Seattle

Phoenix Jones is probably the most badass-looking real-life superhero out there fighting crime. He's got a costume that makes him look like a ‘roided hornet and the martial arts skills to boot. Jones was the leader of the Rain City Superhero Movement from 2011 until it disbanded in 2014, a Seattle-based citizen patrol group that described itself as a crime-prevention brigade. The organization was often in defiance of Seattle police who claimed the vigilante fighters were interfering with ongoing investigations and undercover operations. Jones is now a professional MMA fighter.

#10 The Shadow – Somerset

Ken Andre, a 33-year-old proud father of two, has used his acrobatic skills and ex-military guard experience to keep the streets of Yeovil, England, safe. He uses his martial arts to fight crime and keep his neighborhood safe. Area residents now call him before the police when there is something amiss in the neighborhood. He once left a purse thief bruised and tied to a lamp post for the police to find. He patrols the area four or five nights every week and has even been asked to join the police department. But like any crime fighter, he works better left on his own and without rules.

#11 The Urban Avenger – San Diego

He looks spooky, creepy and more like the riot police, but under all of that garb is a mild-mannered member of the Xtreme Justice League formed by Mr Extreme. The crimefighter is known in the area for his unique costume, which includes power boots. The power boots are small stilt-like boots, originally intended for leg exercise, which can enable someone to jump up to 4 feet in the air and run approximately 20 mph. In other words, don't try to outrun The Urban Avenger.

#12 Real Life Vigilantes

The teacher was never amused when she asked the class what they wanted to be when they grew up and someone blurted out "Spider-Man!" But little did she know that costumed crimefighting has now become a legitimate occupation. For all the real-life super-villains there are also superheroes, and they come in many different shapes, sizes and costumes. If Batman can stop one creepy clown from frightening a child, then there might just be hope for society.
