These captivating side-by-side images show how the planned Titanic II will stick to the incredible detail of the original ship that sank in the Atlantic Ocean more than 100 years ago.
Even though today’s massive cruise ships have on-board amenities such as robot bartenders and giant slides, the Titanic replica will be toned down in comparison and stay true to its namesake with a small swimming pool, Turkish baths and an Edwardian gym.
The launch of the fully functioning Titanic II, the brainchild of wealthy Australian businessman and politician Clive Palmer, who owns Blue Star Line, has been pushed back to 2018.
Have you ever wanted to live the movie "Titanic" (minus the sinking part, of course)?
Soon you will have your chance.
Australian billionaire Clive Palmer plans to build "Titanic II."
The ship's maiden voyage is set for some time in 2018.
Titanic II's construction and floor plan will closely resemble that of the original.
Though Titanic II will have more lifeboats than the original: 2,700 as opposed to the 1,187 in Titanic I.
Palmer will spare no expense in making Titanic II as luxurious as its predecessor.
Palmer also plans for Titanic II's decor to be as close to the original as possible.
Titanic II will be constructed at Jiangsu, China's Jinling Shipyard.
The total cost of the ship's construction is estimated to be $435 million.
Reportedly, some of the relatives of Titanic victims first balked at the idea of a Titanic II.
But most find the project a befitting tribute.
Titanic II's maiden voyage will differ from that of Titanic I's maiden voyage.
Titanic II will travel from Jiangsu to Dubai. (That's a good way to avoid icebergs, in our humble opinion.)
Titanic II's amenities will be retro.
Take, for example, this very early-20th-Century-looking gym.
Even the cabin furnishings will closely resemble the original.
Perhaps ship's guests will feel inspired to wear period-appropriate clothing on their voyage.
After watching this video tour, we can hardly wait to hop on board Titanic II.
That is, hop on board as stowaways.
