The world's shortest couple believe they have a big future together after agreeing to tie the knot. Brazillian couple, Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros, who is 34.8in, popped the 'big question' to 35.2in girlfriend Katyucia Hoshino in front of their closest friends at a sushi restaurant in their hometown of Itupeva.

#2 Their Combined Height Is Less Than 6 Feet

Paulo, 30, has diastrophic dysplasia dwarfism, while 26-year-old Katyucia has achondroplasia dwarfism. His height is 2.90 feet and hers is 2.93 feet. The two have been living together as a couple for a little over 8 years, and Paulo decided it was time to make it official.

#3 Dwarfism

Diastrophic dysplasia, which Paula has, is a rare genetic condition that causes dwarfism and abnormal limb growth. It is a disorder of cartilage and bone development that leads an onset of joint pain and deformity. The arms and legs do not grow in proportion to the body.

People with achondroplasia, like Katyucia, typically have short arms and legs, an enlarged head, and an average-sized trunk. This is the most common type of dwarfism and is sometimes hereditary.

#4 They Met Online 10 Years Ago

They first started chatting when they met while on MSN messenger 10 years ago, but things did not originally go too well for Paulo as Katyucia blocked him for being annoying. She said he had cheap chat lines and was very annoying. She thought he was boring. But luckily enough for Paulo, Katyucia randomly decided to press the unblock button a year and a half later, allowing him to start his pursuit once again. They've been together ever since.

#5 A Surprise Engagement Party

Paulo set up a surprise proposal dinner at a sushi restaurant, Katyucia's favorite place to dine, with all of their family and friends in attendance. Speaking at the dinner, Paulo said:, "Everything I researched, everything I planned on saying, I am going to forget it. I am going to do what my heart tells me. Everything is going to be improvised." He added that he was happy to share his journey with friends, "We haven't got married yet. And since you are friends that have accompanied our journey for a long time, I wanted to share this with you and ask her to marry me."

#6 He Didn't Ask Sooner Because He Was Afraid Of Their Health

Katyucia could not believe what was happening or what Paulo was asking of her. Shocked, she said, "Are you serious babe? Are you okay? Do you have a fever?" She had been waiting for a proposal for a long time, but Paulo had been afraid to make it official because of their health. The two both have severe joint issues and other medical problems associated with their dwarfism.

#7 The World's Shortest Couple

The couple from Brazil now hope their engagement can lead to their official recognition as the world's shortest couple. "Once we get married we will try to be recognised as the world's smallest couple through the Guinness World Records," Paulo said. They are already in the record books as being amongst the shortest people in the world individually.

#8 Planning A BIG Wedding

The happy couple are now planning their eagerly anticipated wedding day, with Katyucia searching for her perfect dress and Paulo worried about how to pay for it since Katyucia wants a big traditional wedding.

"This is the best part of getting married," she said, adding that she was still in shock after her proposal. Paulo added, "The most important thing for me today is the pursuit of happiness. I think it's about love and gratitude, always."
