Russian photographer Jana Romanova found that most of her friends were beginning to get married and have children, and wanted a way to chronicle this exciting time in their lives.

She decided to take a photo series called "Waiting", showing pregnant couples in the blissful state of sleep.

Partially, the project was to help her feel involved. She wasn't ready to have children yet,

She shot the portraits during the weekend, when couples were relaxed and didn't have to get up for work.

She set up step ladders to create a birds-eye perspective, capturing interesting body shapes and intimate cuddles.

Jana begun by photographing her friends, but after the project grew, she started to recruit other couples online.

All the couples live in either St Petersburg or Moscow.

The series also examines "the way young families live in big cities of modern Russia, 20 years after the fall of the Soviet Union
