A California couple decided to outdo basically everyone in regard to epic wedding photos that can’t be easily recreated. That’s because they were literally three weeks of treacherous climbing in the making. Every couple wants their wedding day to be one to remember, but this couple went above and beyond to make sure theirs was unlike any other.
This Couple Got Married On Mount Everest. Their Wedding Pictures Are Next-Level And Breaking The Internet
James Sissom, 35, and Ashley Schmieder, 32, from California, traveled thousands of miles and spent days trekking through the snow to tie the knot on Mount Everest. They spent a year training and planning for their feat of strength wedding in Nepal and (apparently very fit) photographer Charleton Churchill came with. According to the Daily Mail, Ashley Schmeider and James Sisson spent three weeks trekking up to a Mt. Everest base camp at 17,000 feet above sea level. After deciding "a traditional wedding was not the right fit" for them, they planned for a year and then schlepped everything they needed from California to get married on the Nepal mountain up with them and tied the knot there.
"As much as we would have loved to share our special day with our family and friends, we were both drawn to the idea of eloping during an incredible vacation," Schmeider said. The pair had previously climbed as high as 14,000 feet before and encountered altitude sickness and near-frostbite on this particular climb.
The adventurous newlyweds, who spent a year planning the trip, braved freezing temperatures, grueling terrain and altitude sickness on their way to Everest Base Camp, where they exchanged vows at 17,000ft above sea level.
They dealt with altitude sickness, tons of snow and sub-zero temperatures, but, worth it? They have the ultimate social media photos that no one will ever be able to top, and oh yeah, special memories to last a lifetime or whatever.
Ashley said: "After much deliberation, we decided a traditional wedding was not the right fit for us. As much as we would have loved to share our special day with our family and friends, we were both drawn to the idea of eloping during an incredible vacation. We both are avid lovers of the outdoors and had experience at altitude up to 14,000 feet, but we knew the three week Everest Base Camp trek would be far more physically and mentally demanding than anything we've experienced."
These photos are indescribably beautiful and imagining all the planning and prep it took to make them happen is nothing short of mind-blowing. Churchill and this brave couple deserve every bit of praise and viral fame heaped upon them.
While the ceremony was certainly unconventional, the couple brought a touch of tradition to the occasion with their outfits. Ashley looked radiant in a figure-hugging embellished gown while James looked dashing in a suit.
While many brides splash out on heels for their wedding day, Ashley opted for a pair of practical hiking boots.
Charleton Churchill said: "I wanted to document a real couple getting married, the journey along the way, the pain, the happiness, the tiredness, the struggles, as well as the romantic chemistry of the couple.
More than that, I wanted to portray the contrast that exists between the intimidatingly majestic mountains and the small, fragile love between two humans."
The couple hold each other in a loving embrace as they celebrate their marriage in the clouds.
