In 2013, the blobfish was awarded the unceremonious title of “world’s ugliest animal.” Since then, the deep sea-dwelling fish has skyrocketed to fame, to the point where there’s even a blobfish-themed café in East London.

Psychrolutes marcidus(scientific name) lives as far down as 4,000 feet beneath the ocean’s surface.

In order to survive in the deepest parts of the sea, blobfish have virtually no skeleton. This allows them to live under the extreme pressure.
It mostly feasts on “edible matter” that floats in front of its face.

Blobfish also gets a bad rap. Their low-density bodies allow them to live in deep waters, but causes them lose their shape when they’re out of it.
