The next time you have something in your eye, look carefully at the bottle of eye drops you pull out of your bag. A Florida woman trusted the judgement of her friend and ended up in a horrible circumstance!
#1 Take A Closer Look
You need to look closer when reaching for eye drops, or you could end up like this woman did. A Florida woman trusted the judgement of her friend and ended up in a messy situation when her eyes were glued shut!
#2 Blowin' In The Wind
Katherine Gaydos from Lantana, Florida was blowing leaves when a speck of dirt got in her eyes. She yelled out to her friend who was nearby, asking them to grab a bottle of eye drops from her purse.
#3 She Needs To Reevaluate Her Friends
The friend grabbed the first little white bottle that she could find and went to over to help. Katherine took the bottle, and without looking at the label, began to put the drops in her eye. That's when it started getting worse...
#4 Super Glue
To her dismay, that bottle wasn't eye drops. It was Super Glue! DOH!
#5 Call 911!!
"As soon as I felt it in my eye, I felt it burn, and I closed my eye and screamed ‘Call 911,'" Katherine recalled. The glue did it's job perfectly because within seconds Katherine's eye was sealed shut.
#6 Even Obamacare Didn't Cover This Accident
Though it was 8 days later, a local news station interviewed Katherine about the incident, and her eye was still glued shut. She said she'd visited a a doctor who gave her topical ointment, but because she didn't have any money, he wouldn't work on opening her eyelid.
#7 She Finally Gets Medical Attention
Another doctor heard of her accident and contacted Katherine. He began treatment with an anesthetic to her eye lid, and slowly it began to open.
#8 It's Not Over Yet
As excited as Katherine is to be able to open both eyes, she still has to continue treatment. There is still remnants of dried glue on her cornea and that much be removed. "He said I should get my sight back, and not have permanent damage," Katherine said.
#9 This Is Not Uncommon, Apparently
Stories of people mistaking super glue containers for eye drops isn't as uncommon as you think. Irmgard Holm from Arizona knows what Katherine went through all too well. After cataract surgery she had been prescribed eye drops. And yes, you guessed it, she did the same exact thing. She glued both of her lids shut!
#10 WTF??
Like Katherine, the glue acted quickly and sealed both of her eyes in just moments. Irmgard didn't have to wait eight days as Katherine did, paramedics and the hospital staff immediately got both of her eyes flushed out and opened.
#11 Do They Look The Same?
Do you think that super glue and eye drop bottles look very similar? Not really... maybe they had problems with seeing to start with. A Super glue bottle is usually sticky and the cap is hard to remove. Eye drops flow out with a simple squeeze. You decide.. but be careful when reaching for those drops!
