#1 It's getting hot, with some areas of the U.S. reaching more than 100 degrees.

It may seem obvious, but you shouldn't leave anything with a heartbeat alone in the car right now, let alone a puppy.

Stephen Davis told Today that cops received a call from a bystander at a Pensacola mall who reported heating a puppy yelping from a car on a day when temperatures reached 108.

#4 Officer Anthony Giorgio did not see an owner around and the puppy looked listless, so Giorgio broke a window open with his baton.

He then put the puppy on an ice pack he had in his lunch box.

"We know everyone has lapses in judgement, but an animal's life is at stake here, so think about what you're doing," Davis said. "We weren't trying to roast the owners, just trying to bring attention to it."

#5 The dog's owners were given a $150 citation since the offense was their first.

Davis took the opportunity to remind people that Florida recently made it legal to break into a car if they see a vulnerable person or animal in distress.
