Chen Zhonghon's son Cheng Jiafu was abducted by strangers leaving the father utterly hopeless. The six-year-old was taken from his home in China just a few short hours after his father left the home for work.

His father was wracked with guilt as he searched for his son for nine long months. He hoped and prayed that he would be reunited with his son. But, as time went by, he started to feel hopeless and doubted he would ever see his son again. Surprisingly, as luck would have it, Chen would find his son by sheer chance.

Jiafu was abducted by child traffickers who hoped to make a buck by selling off the small child. In 2015, over 200,000 children were kidnapped and sold online in China. Most of them were sold into child labor, organ farms, or the sex trade.

Nine months after abducting Jiafu, his kidnappers took him shopping at a mall just 30 minutes from where he was abducted. This poor decision would end up leading them to their arrest when they accidentally ran into the young boy's father.

Chen immediately called the local authorities when he spotted his son. The abductors attempted to flee on a motorcycle but were wrestled off and handcuffed by the police. All three of the men, known by their surnames as Chen, Li, and Ou, was taken into custody and were later taken to court where they were all found guilty of kidnapping.

Child trafficking is a serious epidemic in China. There are so many women and children being sold off to places like Latin America, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. Most commonly, they are sold to Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan for forced labor or the sex trade. Others are taken for forced marriage or illegal adoption. Those who are victims of this trade are forced to work in coal mines, factories, brick kilns, and construction sites since their labor is so cheap.

The most horrifying fate for the people that are trafficked are the ones who are trafficked for the sake of harvesting their organs. To give you an idea of how bad the organ trade is in China the waiting list for a liver transplant is only two weeks where in the US a person can wait up to two years.

Scarily, in other areas, the demand for females is much higher. China's one-child policy caused a disproportionate number of men. Boys were found to be more desirable than girls since they could carry on the family name. Because of this, women are trafficked for the purpose of arranged marriage.

The Chinese government is aware of the issue and has put many laws and regulations in place in order to try to stop human trafficking. We hope that these newer laws help eventually eliminate the problems. It is hard to believe that forced slavery is still a thing in our modern world.
