Be Responsible

Owning a pet is a big responsibility. You have to keep them safe just like you would your child. They depend on you for everything for their entire lives. Needless to say, being a pet owner is not for everybody. Some people do not have the temperament or fully understand what is needed to care for a pet. Mistakes can be made, and your pet could be seriously harmed.

Leave it to the pros

Something as innocent as giving your dog a makeover could seriously harm or practically kill them. For example, dyeing your dog's fur is the latest craze, but if it is not done properly, there could be some serious repercussions. You could give your dog a new hair color using dog-safe dye. If you use the proper dye and know what you are doing, it could be harmless. However, it is safer to have a professional do this to your dog instead of doing it at home.

Consequences

People who do not take the proper precautions could have horrific consequences. The damage that could be done could leave your fur baby in excruciating pain or even worse, your pet could die.

This five pound Maltese is Violet. Her owners wanted to make her fur color match her name. Unfortunately, they used human hair dye on her, and it almost killed her. Her owner had hoped to transform her into a brightly colored pup that was truly eye-catching, but she ended up being eye-catching for all of the wrong reasons.

Poor Baby

The chemicals from the hair dye burned her so badly that it had gone through Violet's skin, causing parts of it to fall off. The dye also made her eyes swell so bad that she could barely open them. The wounds were so bad that we could not even show you all of the photographs because they are too graphic for most people to handle. She was taken to Pinella County Animal Services who said that even after Violet was washed and cared for, she was still suffering horribly.

#5

Violet had been given pain meds and was bandaged up, but the veterinary staff did not think she would make it through the night. However, Violet beat the odds and fought for her survival and won the battle. It has been three months since the incident, and she seems to be in full recovery. We just hope that this story will serve as a warning to pet owners that some things need to be left to the professionals. What is good for humans is not always good for our pets. Do some research before doing anything like this with your pet.
