When Nicole Kramm decided to go traveling through Chile, she couldn't imagine her trip would end the way it did. She and her friend were hitch-hiking on Route 5, at a roundabout near Santa Cruz, when they heard some cries from a well. But they never imagined what they would find.

There inside was a hurt and skinny kitten, so full of wounds that he couldn't see. He was moaning in desperation and jumping, trying to get out of the hole. The couple was stunned and didn't know what to do. Immediately they started to have doubts: what should they do with the animal? Take him out of there and release him? Take him with them? But how would they travel with him? Not everywhere accepts animals. What would they do when they went to the beach? How would they feed him, who would keep him after the trip? What should they do when they hitch-hiked? Or took a bus? Finally they decided to take the risk. After taking him out of the hole, they washed him, covered him from the sun and went on with their trip.

But luck was on their side. When they traveled on the bus or someone drove them, the kitten behaved very well, hiding in the backpack. They bought him food and pellets and cut a bottle open to make a plate for him. They named him "ze pequenho". At the beach and other public places it was inevitable that people saw him. But they were able to go ahead with their trip without problems.

"I think traveling with him has enriched us. Many times I encountered animals while I was traveling and I never dared to give more than affection or a piece of bread. Because it is very difficult to decide what to do. I recommend to embark on such an adventure, pick up, heal and give up for adoption these animals. You will never forget the experience. It is not the first time I've taken animals to unimaginable places. But I had never traveled with them in my backpack.

We hope that if you see a hurt animal, you take him with you or to a more populated area where someone can help. You can also take pictures and share the place where you found them. There is always some good person willing to help," says Nicole.

Today "ze pequenho" is being treated for his feline breathing illness. 30 potential people have contacted them already to adopt the "surfer cat" as they call him now.
