If you use Tinder and find you are only swiping right to no avail, it turns out there may be a simple reason: your job just isn't sexy enough.
Tinder Reveals The 'Most Desirable' Job Titles In Online Dating
#1 How To Increase Your Right Swipes
If Tinder hasn't yet provided you with true love and you're still impotently swiping right to no avail, it turns out there may be a simple reason: your job just isn't sexy enough.
Since inception, the dating service has received some bad publicity such as being called a 'hook up app that is ruining dating', but data shows it may be moving away from the casual dating scene, with their new profile settings.
#2 New Job Section On Tinder Said To Increase Desirability
In November, Tinder introduced the job section to profiles, as well as where users went to school. To compile the most right-swiped jobs, Tinder says it looked at user data from the last three months in the U.S. By allowing users to include their job in profiles, Tinder has gathered more insight for potential matches.
This information helps the firm understand how to help daters increase their chances of receiving more right-swipes, according to Tinder's blog post.
According to new research from the ubiquitous dating app, and its owner Match Group, not all professions are equally desirable. For example, 'Government Employee' ranked at the bottom of the top 50 occupations for both men and women.
#3 Professions That Women Like Most
It looks like the 1,500 hours of flying planes doesn't just get you a pilot licence, it also gets you more right-swipes on Tinder. It turns out that if you're a pilot, you get more likes, or right swipes on your profile.
#4 Women Like Rugged Yet Caring Professions
Number two is the all encompassing 'Entrepreneur,' which could include most anything. But number three is fireman/firefighter. Showing us that the women find masculine traditional occupations.
#5 Doctors Always Get A Right Swipe
The women on Tinder also believed they would find Mister Right in the form of a doctor. The profession ranks in at number four on the most desirable list, though it's hard to imagine many doctors are using the app.
#5 Women Prefer Masculine But Caring Professional Men
Number five is also part of the same theme as fireman, pilot, and doctor. Women decided that a paramedic was the fifth most desirable occupation for a man they would swipe right for. Again with the masculine, yet caring profession.
Coming in after that are the following occupations for a man:
6. TV/Radio Personality
7. Teacher
8. Engineer
9. Model
10. College Student
11. Lawyer
12. Personal Trainer
13. Financial Advisor
14. Police Officer
15. Military
Tinder was born at the University of Arizona in 2012 and continues to remain a popular go-to spot for college singles, as college student was ranked 10th for men and sixth for women.
#7 Professions That Men Like Most
The men seemed to go for a slightly different type of profession in their females, though some of the same jobs, like teacher, are on both lists. Perhaps unsurprisingly, those who list their job as "Model" are also high up on the list for both genders, though 'Social Media Managers' were, for some reason, considered to be more attractive than models.
#8 Physical Therapists Get More Right Swipes Than Any Other Occupation
For some reason unknown, men seem attracted to females who are physical therapists. So much so, that the occupation outranked every other by comparison.
Right behind the physical therapists rank Interior Designer, Founder/Entrepreneur, then PR/Communications professionals. These seem like odd picks for men, but the men surveyed said the found something 'sexy' about those women who were confident, artistic, and self sufficient.
#9 Teachers Are Liked By Both Men And Women
The good old teaching profession made the top at number five. This also appealed to the women who ranked the teaching occupation at #7. The men sighted they like women who are intelligent. Right below teaching is;
6. College Student
7. Speech Language Pathologist
8. Pharmacist
9. Social Media Manager
10. Model
11. Dental Hygienist
#10 Nurses Made The Cut For Right Swipes But Just Barely
The selfless job of being a nurse ranked at number 12, as compared to the paramedic/doctor on the women's list, which ranked much higher. When asked, the male users said they found nurses to be too mature for them. Really?
The list is rounded out by the following occupations;
13. Flight Attendant
14. Personal Trainer
15. Real Estate Agent
While Tinder hasn't commented on the gendered expectations bound up in the relative desirability of each of these titles, it has stated that sharing job details "increases your chances of receiving a right swipe".
