Tom Cruise Has Been Permanently Banned From Ever Buying A Bugatti For A Bizarre Reason

Saying that fame and wealth often lead to the possession of luxury cars isn't exactly a groundbreaking observation.

It's pretty uncommon to spot a renowned YouTuber, a professional athlete, or a celebrity from the A-list scene without a high-end, and often expensive, car that showcases their elite status.

From Ferraris and Lamborghinis to Rolls-Royces, owning a lavish vehicle ranks as one of the top perks for those who live in the spotlight of wealth and fame.

But, there's one celebrity you won't catch flaunting a new favorite luxury car of his anytime soon. 

Tom Cruise, a major name in Hollywood, finds himself permanently on the no-buy list for Bugatti, one of the world's most prestigious car manufacturers. 

This French brand, famed for producing some of the fastest cars on the planet, also has a reputation for imposing strict policies on its buyers. 

Owning a Bugatti isn't just about the initial purchase; it requires shelling out $21,000 for yearly maintenance and changing the tires every 10,000 miles.

Though these upkeep costs seem minor in comparison to the car's price tag, which can swing from 3 million to 12.5 million dollars according to MotorTrend, they contribute to the overall high maintenance of owning a Bugatti.

However, it's none of these maintenance demands that led to Cruise being barred from acquiring a new Bugatti. 

Rather, it was a small mishap in 2006 that sealed his fate with the brand. 

During the premiere of Mission Impossible 3, Cruise encountered difficulty opening the passenger side door of his Bugatti Veyron. 

Yes, this slightly awkward attempt to open what appeared to be a locked car door nearly two decades ago has since prevented Cruise from ever purchasing a new Bugatti.

On that day in 2006, while Katie Holmes, Cruise's then-wife, eventually made her way to strut on the red carpet with him, the brief moment of struggle was considered too much of a dent in the supercar brand's image to allow such an incident to recur.

But don't feel too sorry for Cruise. He's not alone in this unique ban. 

Celebrities like Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, Flo Rida, Simon Cowell, and Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula One World Champion, find themselves in a similar predicament, indefinitely barred from adding a new Bugatti to their collections for various reasons.

Even though a shiny new Bugatti might not be on the cards for Cruise's collection, he's ensured his garage remains well-stocked with other luxury rides over the years.

Among them are BMWs, Chevrolets, Mustangs, and notably, his infamous Bugatti Veyron, ensuring he's never short of high-end options for a spin.
