Tommy Lee, Mötley Crüe's drummer, revealed on Bill Maher's Club Random that he once consumed two gallons of alcohol daily. He recognized the destructive path he was on and sought help, committing to sobriety one day at a time.
Tommy Lee Reveals He Used To Drink Up To Seven Litres Of Vodka Every Day
Tommy Lee acknowledges that he once consumed two gallons of alcohol per day.
The Mötley Crüe drummer recently discussed his drinking habits when he visited Bill Maher's program Club Random.
He acknowledged that, quite literally, he was drinking vodka by the bucktone when he was at his lowest.
“It’s easy to fall in love with, the way it makes you feel, the way it makes you relax, and then all of a sudden you’re, like, ‘Fuck! I’m drinking two gallons of vodka a day?’ You’re trying to kill yourself now,” he said.
He went on to say that it felt as though his liver was "barely functioning" and needed "crutches."
However, Lee was taken aback when he visited the doctor and was told there would be no lasting consequences.
He believed it to be a case of mistaken identity because it was that extreme.
“Dude, the doctor was, like, ‘You’re good.’ And I was, like, ‘Are you sure you have the...? Let me see. Is that my name on there, or is there some Japanese guy in here that you have his results that you’re reading from?’ Because I find that f**king impossible. This is impossible,” he said.
Alcoholism was a problem for Lee even in 2019.
In 2020, the musician disclosed his addiction and that he has a history of "on and off again" substance abuse.
“I go through these phases where I just want to live a different life and fuck all the dumb shit, and then I decide, ‘You know what? I don’t want to live like that anymore,’” the drummer told Yahoo Entertainment.
Lee clarified that he was primarily drinking "out of boredom" on Mötley Crüe's Final Tour.
“I would just wake up and be just building [a glass with] just all vodka and just a little eyedropper of cranberry or lemonade. I was drinking two gallons – not pints, not quarts, but gallons, the big handles – a day,” he added.
“That’s f**king crazy. … I just realized, ‘Whoa dude, you’re drinking enough to like, you could probably die.’ And it wasn’t even fazing me. … I just became sort of immune to it.”
The 61-year-old claimed that after that period, he entered a treatment center and hasn't been sober since.
The rock star did acknowledge that he tackles sobriety day by day.
As a member of the metal band Motley Crue, Lee gained fame in the 1980s and 1990s for his wild partying. He has previously been married to Anderson, Heather Locklear, and Elaine Starchuk.
Tommy and Brittany got engaged on February 14, 2018, after meeting on the celebrity dating app Raya in 2017. The two lovers exchanged vows on Valentine's Day of the following year.
In a June interview with People, the public figure revealed how she initially got to know the drummer from Raya.
'I’ve always loved him. I used to watch him on MTV when I was younger. I wasn’t the biggest Mötley person, but I loved Methods of Mayhem, his other band,' she stated.
'I knew who he was and I always thought he was super hot, so I was like, "Yeah sure, why not?"'
