“Not my fault you didn’t book seats together.” traveller applauded for not giving up their window seat for middle seat in the back row just because a mom wanted to sit next to her toddler.
In a thread that has since been deleted, OP left this comment which sparked a heated conversation in the comment thread. OP said that they were on a Trans-Pacific flight when they were seated next to a toddler. OP was in the window seat while the toddler was in the middle.
What was surprising was that the toddler's mother was in the seat a row behind them, also in the middle seat. The mom reached out to OP and asked to swap seats with them.
For OP, this was a bad trade and they weren't keen on giving up a window seat for a middle seat. She refused.
She said she noticed that the mom didn't ask anyone else to swap, either in her own row or the person in the aisle seat of OP's row. The woman was also part of a tour group and could have asked anyone in that group to reshuffle.
OP said she couldn't believe the audacity of the woman.
One commenter by the name of 'snarky00' said that they were surprised that OP would rather sit next to a toddler for a long-haul flight.
They also added that booking together was not possible for families every time and they called OP 'dumb' for getting angry over a mom wanting to sit next to her child.
OP answered amicably and said that the toddler was calm throughout the flight and just plated with their toys so they weren't bothered by it.
OP said that there were no red flags and they really liked their seat so there was no reason to make the move.
OP further added that the mom didn't seem stressed or in a rush to be near her kid since she didn't attempt to ask anyone other than OP to swap. It made OP think sitting with her kid was not her objective.
She added that the mother was also rude to her after her refusal.
Other commenters agreed with OP that the mother's lack of effort when it came to other passengers was definitely a red flag.
OP agreed that the mother simply wanted a more comfortable seat and was using her toddler as an excuse.
Another commenter came out and called OP 'heartless' for their refusal.
'snarky00' returned to the comment section and defended the woman. They said that OP shouldn't have been offended by the ask.
Others came to OP's defense and said that it was the entitlement that rubbed OP and them the wrong way.
'snarky00' continued and said that they didn't know much about the situation other than what was in the comment but surmised that OP was the 'bigger prick' due to their phrasing of the comment.
Others continued to respond and defend OP's position.
