The president delivered a 19-minute address on Wednesday evening that sparked concern among viewers
Donald Trump’s primetime address to the nation was described by the White House as “powerful,” but many viewers felt something seemed off about his appearance during the speech.
A number of people on social media began raising questions about the US president’s health after watching the televised address on Wednesday (April 1). The discussion quickly gained traction, with viewers focusing not just on his words but also on how he looked and sounded.
During the speech, Trump provided an update on Operation Epic Fury. He also shared some unusual suggestions about how countries should deal with oil supply concerns and ended by warning that the US would strike Iran “extremely hard.”
Despite the strong tone of his statements, many viewers who watched the 19-minute address felt that the delivery lacked energy and intensity.
It has now been about a month since the US and Israel carried out strikes on Iran. The conflict led to major disruption across the Middle East and resulted in thousands of deaths.
During the speech, Trump claimed that the situation could soon come to an end. While praising the US military’s actions, he said: "Our objectives are very simple and clear...we are systematically dismantling the regime's ability to threaten America or project power outside of their borders," before later adding: "Tonight, I'm pleased to say these core objectives are nearing completion."
"That means eliminating Iran's Navy - which is now absolutely destroyed - hurting their Air Force and their missile program at levels never seen before, and annihilating their defence industrial base," Trump said. "We've done all of it. Their Navy is gone, their Air Force is gone, their missiles are just about used up or beaten."
"Taken together, these actions will cripple Iran's military, crush their ability to support terrorist proxies and deny them the ability to build a nuclear bomb."
Even with these strong claims, some viewers said they felt he looked like he was struggling at times. Others commented that he appeared low on energy and not fully engaged while speaking. Many encouraged others to watch the clip and decide for themselves.
One X user said: "He is very unwell. He was gasping for air."
Another said: "Donald Trump looks and sounds physically unwell. Why are the American people not receiving more information about the health condition of a clearly ailing president?"
Trump's controversial comments about the Strait of Hormuz
With oil and gas prices rising across the world, the 79-year-old president spoke about the importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping route used by many countries.
He suggested that nations relying on the route should take more direct action, even telling them to “build up some delayed courage” and take control of the situation themselves.
"The countries of the world that do receive oil through the Hormuz strait must take care of that passage," Trump said. "They must cherish it. They must grab it and cherish it. They can do it easily."
He also suggested that countries could turn to the United States for oil supplies instead, adding: "We have plenty. We have so much, and number two, build up some delayed courage. Should have done it before."
"Should have done it with us as we asked, go to the strait and just take it, protect it, use it for yourselves. Iran has been essentially decimated. The hard part is done, so it should be easy."
"And in any event, when this conflict is over, the strait will open up naturally. It'll just open up naturally. They're going to want to be able to sell oil, because that's all they have to try and rebuild. It will resume the flowing and the gas prices will rapidly come back down."
Trump repeated that the US was close to completing its military goals, but also issued a warning about future action. He said: "We're going to hit them extremely hard. Over the next two to three weeks, we're going to bring them back to the Stone Ages where they belong. We have all the cards. They have none."
A timeline of health speculation about Donald Trump
January 2024
Photos began circulating that appeared to show unusual red marks or sores on Trump’s hands. These marks seemed to disappear not long after they were first noticed.
When asked about them by reporters, Trump responded with: "Maybe it's AI?"
That explanation raised questions, as the image came from AFP, a widely trusted news agency. However, no clear answer was ever confirmed about what caused the marks.
February 2025
In another instance, makeup appeared to be covering a bruise on the back of Trump’s hand during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The following day, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the issue and said: "President Trump has bruises on his hand because he's constantly working and shaking hands all day, every day."
July 2025
Later that year, new images showed Trump with visibly swollen ankles. It was then confirmed that he had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency.
This condition is not considered serious, but it affects how blood flows in the veins. It can cause blood to pool in the lower legs instead of moving back toward the heart.
October 2025
Trump visited Walter Reed Medical Center for what was described as a routine yearly check-up. However, this visit came just six months after his previous one, which led to some questions.
His doctor later said that Trump had lost 20 pounds and had the heart health of a 65-year-old.
March 2026
More recently, Trump’s personal physician issued a statement after a noticeable rash appeared on his neck.
Dr. Sean Barbabella explained: "President Trump is using a very common cream on the right side of his neck, which is a preventative skin treatment"
"The president is using the treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks."
