Bettie Bee is one special kitten who was born in Eastern Cape, South Africa. Just like any other kitty that is born, she has two ears, four pawns, and a fluffy tail. But, she also has two noses, two mouths, and three eyes. She was born with two faces and vets are totally baffled that she has survived.
Veterinarians Are Totally Baffled Over This Kitten Who Was Born With Two Faces
Little Betti Bee was born from a little of three kittens. She is the only one of them to have this condition. This precious baby was born with three eyes, two noses, and two mouths. Because of this, it was difficult for her to nurse and her owners were afraid that she was not going to get the proper nutrition that she needs.
Her owners took her to a vet who told them that they should put her down. They said that her condition would decline as she aged. Most animals that are born like this will usually die before birth or shortly afterward.
Her owners were not ready to give up on their little miracle kitty. They ended up taking her to an animal rescue center that was able to tube feed her, and now she is thriving. She will have to see a vet frequently for scans and regular check-ups, but they are optimistic about Bettie Bee's survival.
This precious little girl is known as a Janus cat, named after the Roman god who had two faces. The technical term for her condition is craniofacial duplication. It is an extremely rare birth defect that causes the doubling of facial features in the womb.
Janus cats rarely survive, but some have been known to live long, healthy lives. You can get a better look at Bettie Bee in this video.
