Is there anything more exciting than when a secret villain finally gets revealed in a TV show?

Whether it’s in shows like The Good Place, Only Murders in the Building, or even the shocking twist of Walt turning out to be Heisenberg in Breaking Bad, finding out that someone is secretly a villain is always an amazing plot twist.

Fans of an Apple TV+ thriller rated ‘10/10’ and called ‘one of the best TV shows ever’ (by fans and myself too) think they’ve uncovered a hidden villain in the series.

The show in question is Severance, and if you watch it, you know that the idea of secret hidden details is part of the fun.

Severance explores a mind-bending concept: if you could separate your consciousness so that you don’t remember going to work, what happens to the part of you that only exists at the workplace?

Thanks, Apple TV+, for making me lose sleep over this.

The show is full of twists. Apple TV+

The concept might be strange and unsettling, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how bizarre Severance can get.

In the show, Lumon, the company where all the characters work, is clearly the main antagonist.

But the intrigue goes deeper, involving people who are placed in their lives outside of work, including the key antagonist Harmony Selvig, played by Patricia Arquette, who turns out to be Mark’s (Adam Scott) neighbor.

Now, fans are starting to question Mark's love interest, Alexa (Nikki M. James).

One user on r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus pointed out, after their third viewing, that Alexa’s reaction on a date with Mark seemed strange.

Alexa is a love interest of Mark's. Apple TV+

They posted: “My suspicions began during their first date. Despite Mark’s erratic behavior, Alexa neither reprimands nor condones his actions. It’s almost as if she’s observing him without trying to influence his behavior.”

The post continued: “Mark invites Alexa to a concert instead of going home for the night, and he starts explaining his relationship with the band.”

“As Mark begins piecing together Petey’s story, Alexa interrupts with a kiss. If you look at it closely, this interaction seems suspicious.”

Petey, played by Yul Vazquez, is a former ‘severed’ coworker who tries to warn Mark about what’s happening in the outside world.

The post went on to say: “The most telling moment is when Alexa tells Mark that his sister asked her for lactation experts, and she mentions giving Mark's sister some contact numbers.”

Adam Scott plays the main character Mark, alongside Britt Lower who plays Helly. Apple TV+

“This leads to Mrs. Selvig showing up. This might be the strongest evidence that Alexa is actually aligned with the ‘bad guys.’”

Another fan commented: “I figured it out because Nikki James is too skilled of an actress to be cast as a throwaway character.”

Although we have to wait until next January for Apple TV+ to bring Severance back, this theory makes the wait more intriguing (and gives me a reason to rewatch the show).
