#1 Heartwarming Goodbyes

Military homecoming videos and photos are very heartwarming to watch, as are those special sendoff kisses captured on film. Despite the fact that these ladies were saying good-bye to their boyfriends and husbands for an unspecified amount of time, it's very clear in these photos that they're incredibly in love. The love transcends time, as seen in this 1922 picture that captured a U.S. soldier tenderly kissing his girlfriend goodbye through a train window before he departed for war.

#2 A Kiss From A Train

These soldiers hung out of windows to say their goodbyes at the train station before departing for WWII. They had no idea when they would see one another again, if ever, and this moment in time was a testament to the bond they shared and the sacrifices they were making. We wish we knew a little more about the people in the photographs but it's easy to see that they will be forever changed by this moment in time.

#3 Just One Last Kiss

A perfect photo that needs no explanation as American sailors received one last kiss from their ladies while they were already aboard their ship ready to be deployed to Egypt in 1963.

#4 Bye Bye Birdie

Two fellow comrades helped a fellow soldier get a good-bye kiss in Los Angeles before departing for the Korean War in 1950. It looks like a scene from a movie, but it was all too real for the millions of those being left behind. Some with a family to raise on their own as their true love was fighting for freedom around the globe.

#6 Soldier Boy, Oh My Little Soldier Boy

Life Magazine was always there during the war to give a close-up and personal view. They typically featured covers of homecomings or farewells that demonstrated the many facets of wartime on everyone involved. This cover photo of a young soldier giving a bracelet to his girlfriend in 1943 as a special present, was an award winner.

#7 Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B

It wasn't always about the goodbyes. Sometimes the excitement and love was captured on film when the soldiers would finally return home from battle. This soldier returned from the war in the 1940s and was greeted with very open arms by his girlfriend.

#8 War Is Hell On The Homefront Too

Nothing was more heartwarming or heartbreaking than when a soldier returned home wounded. Jean Moore was photographed while kneeling to kiss her fiancé, wounded World War II veteran Ralph Neppel.
