People are in disbelief over a couple's drastic move to put their daughter up for adoption.

A husband spilled the beans on Reddit anonymously about the tough call they made to adopt out their daughter only three months after her arrival.

In his Reddit confession, he shared that his wife, Catherine, just wasn't clicking with their baby girl, Elizabeth.

Catherine headed back to work only two weeks postpartum, leaving him to notice how little she bonded with Elizabeth.

The dad laid it out there that having Elizabeth around turned their world upside down, especially since they both love their work to bits.

Most of the baby care fell on Catherine's mom, who lives with them and became the primary caregiver.

He observed that Catherine would barely interact with Elizabeth unless it was absolutely necessary, and she'd steer clear if the baby was fussy.

Three months down the line, they made the heavy-hearted decision to adopt Elizabeth out.

"I can remember life without my daughter. I struggle to remember life without my wife," he shared poignantly.

"I love my daughter, don't get me wrong, and adopting her out would be no easy feat."

"But keeping her could make my wife miserable – is, actually, making her miserable."

He added: "What I want ultimately is whatever is best for Catherine and for Elizabeth, and I honestly think this may be the best option for everyone."

In an unexpected twist, Catherine's mom stepped in to adopt Elizabeth, keeping the baby within the family.

Yet, the husband's story still left Reddit users astounded.

One user couldn't hide their bafflement: "These people sound like robots, or aliens trying out human life."

"Who in their right mind creates a whole sentient life, does a few months of work to raise them, and then just says 'eh it's not for us'?"

While a second said: "Basically treated the abandonment of their child as a transactional exchange between two parties."

However, another user found the story all too relatable, revealing it as a reason behind their decision not to have kids.

"This is my worst fear about having children. But this is also why I never had any and use two forms of birth control at all times," they shared.

"I was a planned child who was neglected and it still baffles me what my mother was thinking. The lack of guilt here is what's getting me."

"I have shown more emotion than this saying goodbye to dogs I've fostered for a few days."
