You’d think scenes like those in the movie ‘Pretty Woman’ don’t actually happen in real life but it turns out that they do.

This mum stepped into a designer store to buy one of their iconic coats when she was rudely told by a salesperson that the style she wanted was more appropriate for someone younger.

"That coat — maybe it was for you 20 years ago. Now it's not for you."

Cupcakemum79 posted to the board ‘Am I Being Unreasonable?’ on Mumsnet asking if she was wrong for never wanting to step into the store again.

She said that her husband wanted to treat her to a nice trenchcoat with winter coming around.

OP tried on a few coats and had to switch sizes so they'd fit her better.

The assistant tried to steer her towards other coats but OP just did not like their fit.

When OP said she preferred the one she was trying on for herself, the 44-year-old was shocked to hear the salesperson tell her she was too old to wear the style.

Which is surprising considering there's not a lot of variation in style when it comes to coats.

Her husband was far more mortified than OP herself and the two left the store after telling the assistant they no longer wanted a coat.

OP wondered if, at 44, she was too old to try on coats anymore.

OP said that she found this 'incredibly offensive' and was put off from the store entirely.

As the comments started pouring in, a poll showed that people were fully on her side and assured her that she was not being unreasonable.

She added that she felt intimidated walking into the store and this salesperson had soured her experience even further.

She further added that her husband had made a complaint about the salesperson later on.

Based on OP's responses, commenters were able to determine that the brand may have been Burberry.
