A groom and another guest ended up arrested at an Indiana wedding celebration after an altercation led to someone being shot.
A wedding took a turn for the worse with a shooting incident and the groom ending up behind bars.
Family gatherings can be notorious for drama—often someone overindulges in alcohol, there's usually a spat or two, and sometimes, someone dramatically exits the scene.
Yet, at this particular wedding in Indiana, the situation escalated into a full-blown disaster.
On May 18, Indiana State Police were summoned to Cornerstone Hall following a report from a woman claiming her boyfriend had been shot by the groom, Corey Parker, in what she referred to as a drunken mishap.
Although Corey Parker had legally tied the knot in 2022, he and his wife chose to hold their wedding celebration earlier this month.
The woman who made the 911 call reported that Parker had an altercation with another guest, Jonathon Goff.
The conflict erupted after Goff’s wife accused Parker of making advances toward another woman.
Parker later shared his perspective with the authorities.
He informed the police that both his wife and Goff's wife had returned to their accommodations at the Cobblestone Hotel in Salem, as reported by Wave.
Parker recounted that as he was leaving the reception, he got into a disagreement with Goff, which escalated to the point where they both allegedly shoved each other.
Parker then attempted to leave by getting into his car.
According to Parker, Goff followed him into the car, where a struggle ensued and a gun inside the vehicle ended up in their hands.
"In all the rustle and bustle, the gun went off," he stated, resulting in the boyfriend of the woman who called 911 being accidentally shot.
It remains unclear whether Parker or Goff was the one who actually fired the gun, with the caller describing the event as a drunken brawl and Parker mentioning the chaotic scuffle that followed.
Parker emphasized that he had no intention of shooting the other guest and speculated that the victim might have been attempting to break up the fight between him and Goff.
According to The Daily Mail, the gunshot victim, fortunately, did not suffer severe injuries, having been shot in the hand.
Parker insists that the shooting was accidental.
Nonetheless, he now faces charges for assaulting Goff and the reckless discharge of the firearm.
Both men were arrested and booked into Washington County Jail.
Parker is charged with battery and criminal recklessness involving a deadly weapon.
He pleaded not guilty in court and was released on a $3,000 cash bond.
Goff faced the same charges of battery and criminal recklessness.
He too pleaded not guilty and was granted a $3,000 cash bond.
Witnesses reported that both men showed visible signs of their altercation.
They are scheduled to stand trial in September, with a court appearance set for the following month.
