How many times have you scrolled through Netflix trying to find something new, only to give up and watch House Hunters yet again? If you're anything like us, TOO MANY.
You'd figure Netflix's selection would have gotten better after it raised its rates earlier this year. But it's actually gone the opposite direction: As the Streaming Observer found, not only has Netflix's collection of movies and TV shows gotten smaller, it's gotten worse.
After going through IMDB's Top 250 database, the Streaming Observer found that Netflix has 12 percent fewer "good" movies than it did two years ago. As of right now, only 31 movies on Netflix are on that Top 250 list.
But why is this happening? Lets take a look.
Netflix subscribers have been frustrated lately by the lack of good movies available for streaming.
There are a number of classics available, but the entertainment giant seems to be moving away from licensing content.
Instead, they are moving towards creating as much of their own content as possible.
Given the success they've had with brilliant series like "Stranger Things," we don't blame them.
They've even delved into documentaries, making great true crime movies, like "Amanda Knox."
The company reportedly wants to own half of its content in the future.
That means that subscribers can look forward to more great original programming, but fewer blockbuster movie options.
One interesting niche that Netflix can fill is bringing back cancelled shows from other networks.
It's exciting to think that our favorite cancelled series could come back for one last hurrah.
Even though there are less movies on Netflix, there are still many reasons to chill.
