#1 DON'T: Make a Big Deal On Facebook

Anybody that really cares about you probably already knows you broke up. You don't need to announce it. That just looks pathetic. #annoying #sadbuttrue

#2 DON'T: Text

It doesn't matter if you got dumped or dumped someone.

Memorize these words from the 30th president of the United States, Calvin Coolidge:

"I have noticed that nothing I never said ever did me any harm."

Did you get that?

"I have noticed that nothing I never said ever did me any harm."

In other words: SHUT THE F**K UP. Put your phone away. Stop having imaginary conversations. No comments. No apologies. Let it be. Leave them alone.

KEEP IT COOLIDGE.

#3 DON'T: Rush Friendship

Sometimes friendship comes easily, sometimes it doesn't. If you guys were meant to be friends, you can wait a few months. People rush into being friends because it makes the pain of breaking up lessen. But it also complicates everything and can even make things worse.

Take it slow.

#4 DON'T: Litter

Things only mean something if you say they do. Who cares? It's a perfectly good iPod/t-shirt/dog. Keep it! Or at least find a good home for it. But DON'T get too dramatic about it. It's just stuff.

#5 DON'T: Give Up on Pizza

Don't give up on love just because you've had one (or a few) bad experiences. Work on yourself (aka dance your dreams) and be open to new romantic experiences. People will tell you that true love never lasts, but you know what? Neither does cheese. Get over it and enjoy some pizza while you can!

#6 DON'T: Worry About Them

It wasn't the right match at the right time. That's absolutely, perfectly, COMPLETELY OK. It hurts like a MOFO. Don't burden yourself with feelings of guilt. Don't toss and turn at night wondering if their ok. They're probably not, but they will be very soon. Your pity does nothing for them or for you.

And OH MY GOD do not text them. Silence is golden.

#7 DO: Enjoy the Ride

Break-ups shake our world around like nothing else. It can feel ridiculous, even embarrassing how much they affect us. But it's not. We're people. We need other people. And it just happens to be that we need adventure and change too. It's inconvenient as HELL but it's all part of the human experience.

So #10 DONT:

Don't freak out. It's supposed to be intense. But it gets better! It even gets great :) Enjoy the ride!
