Miranda and Josh Crawford's dream had always been to have a big family. But for some strange reason, offspring didn't come so easily, and the pair had to give nature a kick-start: an artificial insemination was initiated and two ova were planted in Miranda's uterus. Typically, in optimal cases, only one fully forms. How their story then develops however, is truly unique.

Very early on in the pregnancy, Miranda noticed that she was growing much bigger than expected. And actually: the first ultrasound encouragingly showed that she would soon be the proud mother of quadruplets!! Multiple births from in-vitro pregnancies are no rare thing, even quad-births occur often enough. But in Miranda's case, the true surprise was still to come.

As the due date loomed closer, Josh and his heavily pregnant, and nerve strained wife, Miranda, went to the hospital. Nobody really knew what to expect. Luckily, the delivery via caesarean section went smoothly, and soon thereafter lay 4 lively little worms in the arms of the young mum. When the exhausted Miranda looked at her little ones, she nearly fainted:

This was no normal set of quadruplets that life had given her. She had given birth to two pairs of identical twins! Just like the two boys Jackson and James ...

... the girls Mia and Madison, have names starting with the same letter, like peas in a pod. Even the doctor who assisted the family through the pregnancy and birth hadn't seen anything like it. The chance that a quad-birth would comprise of two sets of identical twins is 1 in 10000. Even with the best intention, no one could count on that.

Miranda and Josh quickly came to terms with the confusing situation. "Of course it was a shock for everyone at the start. Four in one swoop is a shock in itself, and then that two sets of twins: this will definitely be interesting. We are simply happy that all four are alive and well", said the proud mum after the first night at home together. One can only say: good luck and have fun with your 2 pairs!

Even on film, these four are a sugar-sweet sight:
