Your body is an amazing miracle, it has ways of telling you when something isn't quite right, that is why it is important to listen to your body. Symptoms may just seem like an short inconvenience at the time, but they could in fact be a warning sign of an illness, or other health issues. Picking up on the tell tale signs, and being attuned to what is normal and abnormal for you is vital to feeling well and preventing future problems.

#2 Gaining weight around the weight

Are you struggling to get i your favourite jeans? If your waist is more than 31 inches as a woman or 37 inches as a man, you are at risk of developing diabetes. To prevent this make sure exercise regularly and keep your diet in check, but in the meantime talk to your doctor about taking a test for Type-2 diabetes.

#3 Yellow spots around your eyes or elbows

This is a condition known as xanthelasma and it is caused because of fatty deposits under the skin. If you have developed this condition it could be a sign that your cholesterol level is raised.

If you are concerned go for a blood test at your doctors, dietary interventions and exercise can help reduce this.

Cholesterol is an important factor to keep in check as it is a risk factor for developing problems with the heart or brain, such as a heart attack or a stroke.

#4 You have darker circles under and around your eyes

This could be due to simply not getting enough sleep. however, dark circles can also be caused by allergies. Working out what is the cause is key, because if you are allergic to something you need to limit your exposure. If the itching is frequent, anti-allergy medications may help.

#5 Itchy feet

If you are spending time in sweaty trainers the damp environment can increase fungal infections, causing the feet to itch.

You may notice a white scaly or red rash in between your toes or under the feet. This is commonly referred to as athletes foot.

Anti-fungal cream, usually available over the counter can help to treat this. Good hygiene and making sure you air your feet out as often as possible helps heal the feet and prevent it from happening again in future.

#6 Cracks at the corners of your mouth

Your body is telling you to increase your intake of foods rich in Vitamin B and iron, such as veg, lean meat, and eggs.

If they do become dry and cracked, try not to touch them as you don't want them to become infected. Try topical treatment, and moisturising to clear it up ASAP.

This can also happen when a change in weather occurs.

#7 Very itchy rash

This can be so annoying especially if it doesn't improve despite using creams available over the counter, this can be a sign of coeliac disease

This is a gluten-sensitivity condition, whereby the body reacts badly to food containing gluten. It affects the lining of the gut, making it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. The skin can be affected a lot of the time. Depending on the severity of the condition it can cause chronic damage to the bowels.

It is important to know if you have this condition early , so if you have any suspicions make sure you go and get yourself check out, better to be safe than sorry.

#8 Thinning hair

If your hair is beginning to thin it could be a tell tale sign that your iron levels are too low. this can be problematic for women especially as we are a lot more conscious than some men.

If your levels of iron continue to drop, there is a strong possibility you will become anaemic.

Having a thyroid problem can also affect the hair.

A blood test can be done to reveal these problems. Increase your iron intake or take a supplement if you are not a big fan of meat.

#9 Brittle nails

Sometimes this can happen if you over-expose the nails to wet, damp conditions, or frequently use nail polish.

Take a supplement with biotin (vitamin b7) this could prove effective. Moisturise the nails regularly. Sometimes brittle nails can be a sign of fungal infections, psoriasis, thyroid problems, or arthritis.

Seek a medical advice if you have other symptoms with this condition such as rash, fatigue, or painful joints.

#10 Constipation

This is your body telling you to increase the fibre and water in your diet.

It's staggering how many people don't even get close to their RDA of fibre and water.

Vary your fibre intake as you need both insoluble and soluble fibre to maintain a healthy digestive system.

If it does happen, the body gradually adapts and it should settle with time.
