#1 Welcome To The Wedding Of Lulu And Alex

Lulu and fiance Alex made sure their five year old son Max felt just as special on their wedding day as they would, so they allowed him to truly express himself just as he had been doing since the age of 2. However, that meant that the bride was not the focus of attention on her big day.

#2 Lulu Decided On A Vera Wang Dress For The Two Of Them

Lulu had taken Max with her when she went dress shopping one day. Max loved the dress his mother had chosen to wear. "He fluffed up all the layers and danced around with me then said 'I want a big pink dress at the wedding too!'" Lulu revealed. After checking in with him for over a year to make sure he actually wanted to wear a dress, she decided to get him an identical one to hers for the big day.

#3 All Eyes Were On Max That Day

Lulu had her doubts about letting Max express himself but the guests were all family and friends and she thought they would understand. He only wore the dress through the ceremony before changing back in to his shorts and shirt. Lulu says, "When I pull out the albums for whatever partner he has at 15, they won't all be in a dress." She was surprised how well everyone took the attire, except for her own mother.

#4 Lulu's Parents Had Some Hesitations About The Dress

"My parents had some hesitations, which surprised me since my mom has always been my ‘Be true to yourself' cheerleader. I reminded them that when I was little I wore neon striped dresses, polka dot tights, and top hats, which embarrasses me now, but was exactly who I wanted to be then. They helped make me into a self-loving being through self-expression and I want to do that for my children," Lulu said.

#5 Max Always Loved Being Different And Experimenting With Clothing

"When he was 2, during one of our evening chats before bed, we were talking about boys and girls and what made them different," Lulu continues. "I told him that not everyone feels tied to what they were born with and that everyone can play with what they want. He looked at me like he had never even considered as an option that he was allowed to choose, which made me sad. He asked if he could wear girls' clothes if he wanted to. I told him, ‘Yes, if you want to.'

#6 His Loving Parents Allow Him To Explore His True Identity

"He mostly wears his regular 'boy' clothes, but when I paint my nails, which is infrequent, he wants to as well," Lulu says. "And several times a year he wears a tutu to school. I don't think he will be transgender, as he doesn't want to be a girl as far as he's told me. Most of it is just play. It wouldn't matter to me either way, though." When asked how he felt in his dress on the wedding day and Max says he felt ‘good, happy, and my dress was awesome.'"
