A woman recently shared her experience of how she managed to get out of a tricky situation involving quicksand.

Jamie Acord had been enjoying a leisurely walk along the beach when she stumbled upon this unusual and somewhat alarming phenomenon.

It's a scenario many of us know well from adventure movies: the unsuspecting character walks across what appears to be solid ground, only to find themselves suddenly sinking knee-deep into quicksand.

Without something to grab onto, like a friend or a handy vine, they slowly sink further, with only their hat left as a grim reminder of their predicament.

In real life, quicksand isn't as deadly as the movies would have us believe.

While the chances of being completely submerged are very low, getting stuck can still pose a serious problem, especially if you're alone and in a remote area without any help nearby.

Luckily for Jamie, her husband was there to assist her.

Jamie shared the details of the incident in a post on social media, aiming to warn others.

She wrote: "Just an FYI to all you peeps who love George Popham Beach I was there Saturday with my husband enjoying a leisurely stroll on the Beach along the high tide mark (almost to the dunes) when I fell into a sink hole.

“The state Park Rangers stated they have had some reports of the sand being like quick sand."

Continuing her account, she added, "I fell in up to my hips, that’s 2.5 feet. Patrick Acord said one minute I was there and the next I was not. I had to have him pull me out I could not do it on my own.

“I could not feel the bottom and I could not get a footing. My feet are scratched up as are my knees probably from rocks or sticks in the hole.

“Had I been a small child I would have disappeared into the hole. (I’m not kidding they would have been sucked in)."

Jamie also described what happened immediately after she was pulled out: "No sooner did Patrick pull me out did the hole disappear."

She then went on to explain how this dangerous sand came to be on the beach.

"The Rangers said that because of the flooding and erosion over the last year the river near Morse mountain is now curving around the front of the beach into the ocean and it’s causing the quicksand-like sand on the beach to cause people to struggle more or get stuck when walking."

Her detailed recount of the incident serves as a cautionary tale for anyone planning to visit that area.

It highlights the importance of being aware of the potential hazards, even in places that seem perfectly safe for a stroll.
