An employee is being lauded on social media for blocking her boss' number after he tried to contact her on her personal phone.

Well, at school or university one could always use extra time to catch up on assignments or exam revisions, but when you come into professional life, you expect that life will be much sorted, now?

Wrong. For some people, even when you've clocked off from work, you may still end up with a pile of documents to sift through or a few emails to finish firing off.

Infact, like TikToker Vanessa your boss may decide to text you on your personal phone, even if you're taking a sick day.

Vanessa - who uses her TikTok to share personal finance, small business and career tips - took to the platform to explain why she decided to block her boss' phone number.

She said: "I just blocked my boss so he couldn't contact me while I wasn't at work.

"I'm at home, sick from work today and for some reason he felt the need to text me about work tasks."

In the video, Vanessa goes on to explain she actually pays $45 (CAD)-a-month (£27-a-month) so she can have both a personal and separate work phone.

Despite how her boss 'knows not to text [her] personal number' the employee tells followers he 'still does sometimes'.

Vanessa resolves: "So today I blocked him."

Many people took to the comments section to support Vanessa's decision to block her boss on her personal mobile.

One user said: "I don't blame you, he's not your friend and you're not working."

"Girl, all of mine blocked because they don't respect anyone's boundaries. Love to see it!" another wrote.

Some TikTok users questioned why Vanessa should have to pay for her work phone anyway.

The employee replied: "Everyone at the company uses their personal cell phones as work ones. The phone cost is 'worked into the salary' apparently."

Another TikToker explained it's 'actually illegal' for bosses to contact their employees outside of work hours in Ontario, Canada.

Vanessa resolved: "Hopefully that will be a Canada wide law soon!"
