Racial tension is at an all-time high in America, thanks to the media both old and new. And because racism sucks, there have been a ton of social movements to try and fight discrimination, chief among them is the Black Lives Matter movement, which is ruffling a lot of people's feathers, especially on Twitter.
Woman Calls An American Airlines Attendant 'Disgraceful' For Wearing A Black Lives Matter Pin
#1 She Thought His Pin Was Disgraceful
A passenger on an American Airline flight snapped a photo of a flight attendant wearing a pin that read 'Black Lives Matter' and shared it on the airline's official Facebook page. A short time later, Maggie Dietrich reshared the image to her Twitter account with the comment. "Disgraceful".
#2 American Airlines Tried To Hide The Post
American Airlines responded 20 minutes later, hiding the post "in accordance with community guidelines," as it displays a photo of an employee. It was too late, however, since the post had already been shared several times and people were beginning to make comments either for the pin and the employee or against the pin and the airline.
#3 The Company Dress Code
But the airline couldn't handle the comments being posted to their social media pages and decided to share with the world the dress code guidelines for its flight attendants. They took special care to point out that the employee in question was going by the rule that says, "personal pins of choice."
#4 People Began Expressing Their Opinions
Of course in America, since we are protected and free to voice our opinions on anything we feel is warranted, so it goes for others who want to attack your beliefs for what they feel is important. And that's exactly what started happening once everyone got involved in a simple picture of an employee going viral.
#5 People Were Angry And Nasty
Some people posted that they were in favor of the button, while others, though, threatened to boycott the company because they felt it was supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, which some called a "hate group." The original woman who shared the post with Disgraceful written in the comments said, "I don't support any group, this one included, that promotes murdering police officers, arson, theft or all out civil disobedience," she said. "This organization does not promote, at least on any news outlet I've ever seen, peace and equality."
#6 People Demanded Action Of Any Type
But the people who felt that the pin and the employee of the airline had every right to express himself were just as adamant about their convictions as well. Many posts started out positive but after several shares, reposts, and comments later, the responses became mean and argumentative about the whole Black Live Matter movement and racism in our country.
#7 Then It Moved To Twitter
On Twitter, they began commenting on the post as well, the same as on Facebook, there were pros and cons. People began calling out the airline as being as racist as Maggie Dietrich for her posting and issued threats if they reprimanded the attendant for wearing his pin. Ms. Dietrich began getting personal attacks on her feed and said that the BLM had proved her point with the threats and anger.
#8 People Upset At The Airline
But most comments were critical of what appeared to be American Airlines trying to hide one of their employee's supporting Black Lives Matter. One employee of the company posted a picture of himself standing beside a plane asking if the company was going to hide his picture as well. They actually responded by telling him that only employees who post the pictures of themselves are allowed. People were angry that the airline did not stand up for its employee.
#9 Is It A Button Or A Pin?
And then the argument went from racism and threats to the fine details of the company dress code guidelines. Is it a button or a pin? Many, and we mean many, people were interested to learn the answer to this burning question. Perhaps it took their mind off the obvious, that racism needs to be discussed in a serious manner.
#10 American Airline Decided It's A Button
For the record, American Airlines decided the round shaped pin backed saying was considered a button, therefore not allowed to be worn on the official uniform. No word yet on whether the employee wearing the 'button' was reprimanded or not.
