Zhao, 31, says she was okay with her nose job surgery but felt something was wrong with her right ear. After four days, she realized a part of her ear had been removed during the rhinoplasty procedure without her knowledge or consent.
Woman Demands Refund After Doctors Removed A Part Of Her Ear During Nose Job Surgery Without Her Knowledge
This woman had no idea a part of her ear would also be removed with her nose job surgery
Zhao, 31, went through a nose job surgery on September 1 but didn't have any idea it will include a part of her ear to be removed as well. She was shocked to see her ear when she came home.
Upon asking, the hospital admitted it had been used for the rhinoplasty procedure.
Zhao says her headphones no longer fit
The woman was furious as she was not informed about this prior to her surgery. She told the unexpected change to her ear not only looks unsightly, but it also meant her wireless headphones no longer fit.
The surgery was done at the Angel Wing Hospital which is located in the city of Chengdu, in the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan.
Zhao also had a nose job five years ago
According to the Chinese news site called The Paper, Zhao had had a nose job five years ago. Recently Zhao decided to get another, along with an arm liposuction surgery, costing her around CNY 50,000 (£5,700 / $7,530).
The operation lasted from 9 am until the early afternoon. Zhao was completely okay with the operation until she looked at her ear.
At first, Zhao had no idea that a part of her ear had been used in the procedure. After four days, the woman noticed something was wrong with one of her ears.
Zhao looked at it closely and realized something was missing: her tragus, the small pointed part on the inner side of the external ear.
Zhao was baffled to know the doctor removed her tragus during the surgery without her knowledge or consent
The woman told the local media she was not informed about it beforehand. She told the media that she had expected the doctor to use cartilage from behind her ear.
Zhao decided to not sit quiet, she contacted the hospital's customer service team.
Zhao sent the hospital the pictures of her ear to the team who later claimed that this is a normal procedure and that the removal of the ear cartilage from the back of the auricle can cause ear atrophy - meaning experienced doctors will take cartilage from the tragus instead.
It's not the first plastic surgery hospital Zhao went to, the woman told that she had consulted many doctors in other plastic surgery hospitals,. The other doctors had confirmed that cartilage from behind the ear is most commonly used for rhinoplasty, as it doesn't affect the appearance or the physiological functions of the ear.
Upon investigation, the vice president of the hospital's administration, Yuan, denied taking responsibility. It was told to the local media that Zhao had given her informed consent by signing an agreement before the surgery.
He told that the agreement said that 'cartilage rhinoplasty' would be used, which included the whole ear.
Zhao feels upset by her appearance, she told she is unable to use headphones for her right ear.
Zhao wants the hospital to refund her payment, compensate her, and do plastic surgery to repair the ear from the hospital. But the hospital refuses to do any of the above things leading to various episodes of conflict resulting in the police being called to intervene.
