Graphic details about the attack were shared by a neighbor, including that one of the dogs bit the back of the victim's neck.
Residents have recounted the terrifying incident where a woman was attacked by her neighbor's dogs while on her own property.
The woman from Louisiana is now in the hospital, recovering from severe injuries after she came close to losing her leg in a brutal attack.
More than one dog attacked her after she fell in her driveway in Livingston Parish on Tuesday (October 29).
Neighbors could only stand by, horrified, as the scene unfolded. These dogs had shown aggressive behavior and even bitten other residents before, prompting them to quickly call 911.
Cheryl Boudreaux, whose elderly mother also lives on Randall Avenue, explained that her mom was too frightened to speak up, so she decided to share their experience with WBRZ 2.
"They've bitten my mom twice. My mom is 85 years old, both times she required medical attention," she shared.
Her mother had been the one to call 911 just moments before the woman was attacked, reporting that the woman had fallen.
Boudreaux continued: "She had to stand there and watch it. She was like, 'Y'all need to hurry up and get here. Hurry up and get here. They are eating this woman.' Then, Mama said the lady wasn't moving and Mama thought she was dead."
She mentioned that when the authorities arrived, they finally took the dogs away. She noted, "that's the first time," and expressed frustration that it took such a severe incident for action to be taken against dogs known to be aggressive.
"We're just furious, you know, because we don't understand why it had to get to this," Boudreaux said.
Randall Averette, another resident in the Denham Springs neighborhood, shared even more details, describing how the woman was trying to stand up when the dogs attacked her.
The elderly neighbor said: "When I went over there, she was laying on the ground, paramedics bandaging her up."
He then recounted the shocking injuries she suffered, adding: "The paramedics said that her left leg was torn up pretty good around her calf, her right leg was bit, her arm was bit and the dog bit her on the back of the neck."
Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed that two of the three dogs belonging to the woman’s neighbor were taken to the local pound on Wednesday (October 30). It remains unclear if the dogs have been euthanized yet.
He also noted that there had been a previous incident involving the same dog owner not too long ago.
Ard added: "The last time we went through the paperwork to get the dog [considered] dangerous, we couldn't actually identify the dog. Now, we have been able to identify the dog. Unfortunately, someone has almost lost their leg because of this."
