A month later, without having any further communication with the man, Amanda Trenfield left her husband - only to then be rejected by her soulmate.

An excerpt from the mom of two, Amanda Trenfield's memoir was featured in The Sydney Morning Herald, titled: 'Less than a month after I met my soulmate, I ended my 14-year marriage.' But there was a plot twist readers would never see coming until the end of the article.

Trenfield recounted attending a three-day conference with her husband at which she immediately locked eyes with Jason–a man she had met twelve years ago. "I hadn't forgotten," she wrote.

If he made enough of an impression on her then, their encounter this time around would empower her to make a life-changing decision. "As I settled into my seat, I looked up and immediately lost my breath," she said of the moment she saw Jason. "When our eyes met there was an instant familiarity that ran deeper than water-cooler chat."

She ended up going for drinks with him and staying out late because she was having such a good time. The pair shared an "electric" night, eating, drinking and talking, before they parted ways.

She said: "We enjoyed a body-hugging embrace where I whispered into his ear, 'This isn’t over, I need to see you again.' He put his hands tightly on my waist and pulled me close. 'Yes,' he replied. It was all I needed to hear.

"I had never felt anything like this before.

"I now know without hesitation, without question, without any doubt in my mind, my body or my heart, that the energy we experienced that evening was our souls connecting."

Amanda claims the next few days were a blur as she couldn't focus on her job, running the house or taking care of her two children, as she was distracted by the knowledge that she'd just met her soulmate.

But the story takes a dramatic turn when four weeks after the dinner, Amanda boldly decided to end her marriage - despite not having any further communication with Jason since that evening.

“The woman who had always been so careful, so planned, so organized and so clear about the path her life would take, had just made the most dramatic decision of her life, one affecting those dearest to her — her family,” Trenfield candidly wrote.

Readers flipped out when they reached the end of the article and discovered the title for Trensfield's memoir was an embarrassing plot twist for the ages.

Her book is called When a Soulmate Says No.

Apparently, Jason said 'no'.

Twitter users were in hysterics over the unhappy ending as they realised that she had left her husband, only to be rejected by her supposed soulmate. Thousands of people on Twitter shared their thoughts, with many admitting this is the kind of story they would have taken to their grave. Others were keen to know more about Jason and his account of that meeting.

One person posted: "Girl they couldn't have tortured this out of me at Guantanamo."

Another said: "Plot twist: Jason has an entirely different version of this evening."

"This is simultaneously the worst and greatest thing I ever read," proclaimed a third.

However, the author also had a small number of supporters, who commended her for writing her emotional truth.

“She actually didn’t ‘ruin’ her life for nothing,” one defender wrote. “She left a marriage that most likely needed to end, otherwise she wouldn’t have been swayed by another. It looks like she’s happy & making the best of the situation. Her ex-husband is probably happier too. Sounds like a win.”

Trenfield has not publicly responded to the controversy the excerpt had caused.

She reportedly now works as a “life coach” and does not appear to have reconciled with her ex-husband.
