If you still think spontaneous human combustion is just a joke invented by South Park, then think again.
A German woman is currently in a critical condition in hospital after she was sitting on a park bench in Flensburg, when all of a sudden she caught fire and was engulfed by flames.
Witnesses have revealed to local media how the woman made no sound as she became surrounded in flames; the fire was put out when a man battled to extinguish the flames by beating her with his jacket.
#1 The woman, believed to be in her 40s and who is originally from Mauritius, was then flown to a specialist burns unit in Lubeck, with the cause of the fire being ‘unknown’.
Despite its intriguing reputation in human culture, the true causes of spontaneous human combustion are still very much a mystery. Some believe that due to the body's high water content, it is simply impossible to just burn from the inside out.
Others believe that obesity can cause a person to become more flammable, others point to electricity, divine intervention, and perhaps the most widely supported; alcoholism.
#2 Back in 2011, 76-year-old, Michael Faherty reportedly died from spontaneous human combustion according to his coroner. The BBC stated that the flames which caused Fahery’s death were confined to his body, and the ceiling and door directly around him.The source of ignition was never determined.
Another care is that of American, Jack Angel, who allegedly woke up to find his hand and torso were severely burned, with his doctor informing his that the fire came from within.

As ever, we're hoping for the best possible outcome for this lady, and hopefully one day, she can explain her story.
For now, spontaneous human combustion is just one of those uncertain things we all have to be weary of.
